Sec.109. MATERIAI, FOR FOUNDATIOTdS. Foundations walls of ar?y building must be <br />built of"hard brick, stone or concrete, unless such building be'of ?rame o r the con-struct3on, wheil tile o r concrete blocl€s ma,y` be used, and vdhere there is a cellar or <br />basecnent the exterior walls below the surface of the ground sh411 be f?xlly.protected <br />from dampness by a coating of Portland cetnent mortar ivhich sliall be not less than - <br />one-half(2) inch thick, to be viell troiveled on, ?:nd left smooth and whole ready to <br />receive the water-proofing. . <br />After the cement has thoroughly set, it shall be completely coated ovei wa th <br />tar, or other water-p roofing campouild acceptable to the Buildino Insp.ector, this <br />coating to be mopped or brushed on so as to completely cover and protect-same, and <br />no filling in to be done until same has been inspected and approved by him. <br />? <br />Wherever hollow tile is used, such tile shall be laid ivell below the frost <br />line and properly pr,otected to prevent breaking or crushing. <br />All foundation vialls, including footing for saane, regardless of the kind of <br />ma,terial used, shall be, laid up vaith Portland cement mortar. FOUIQDATIONS FOR Dti`lELLING HOUSES. Fiollow vitri=ied tile or cement <br />blockmay be used in the foundation of tile or frame dwellings. They shaTl be no <br />less than twelve and one-half(l2-21) inches or one and o ne-nalf brick thick and not <br />less t2ian fourteen incizes of irregular stone rubble. Ho11o1Qr tile shall be used in <br />conjunction with brick, in all brick and tile buildings, such brick to.be laid in <br />all cases on the outside.face of all exterior walls..'' <br />All tile walls to start on a footing course oi Urick, to be of at'least two <br />courses in height and to project at least two inches each side of vaall above. <br />If hollow tile in conjunction cuith brick is used for dwelliilg foundations <br />over one (1) story high, not less th.an eight (8) inch tile'shall be used with a <br />single course of brick. <br />Every fourth course shall be a header course of bricl: with back stretchers, <br />making the wall not less than twelve and one-lialf.(12-2) inches thick.'
