§ 1591.50 <br />.DWELLING HOUSE CODE <br />1591.50 Electrical wiring and equipment. <br />Electrical wiring and accessories to heat- <br />ing equipment shall be installed in conform- <br />ity with the provisions of Chapter 97. Elec- <br />trical wiring shall not be installed in the <br />same stud space wherever the same is used <br />as a warm air supply duct. <br />1591.51 Repairs after fire damage. <br />Whenever the operation of a heating sys- <br />tem has been the cause of a fire, such heat- <br />ingsystem shall not be used or operated un- <br />til it has been inspected by the Building <br />Official and such alterations and changes <br />made as are deemed necessary by him to <br />permit safe operation of the heating system, <br />and no alterations or repairs shall be made <br />without a permit issued by the Building <br />Official. <br />1591.52 Inspection and approval. <br />(a} Inspection periods. All heating sys- <br />tems installed and all new work in systems <br />altered after the effective date of this Dwell- <br />ing House Code shall be inspected and sub- <br />ject to approval by the Building Official <br />upon completion and while in the process <br />of installation, as follows: <br />i. In warm air heating systems, when <br />stacks to upper floors, and boxes for all regis- <br />ters have been installed, and boots have <br />been connected; or in a steam or hot water <br />system, when all piping has been roughed in; <br />and <br />ii. When the system is completely installed <br />and ready to operate. <br />(b) Notice. It shall be the duty of the <br />person to whom the heating permit has been <br />issued to give at least 24 hours advance <br />notice to the Building Official when the <br />system is ready for a test or inspection. It <br />shall be the duty of such person to make <br />certain that the work is in accordance with <br />this Dwelling House Code before requesting <br />inspection. <br />(c)' Equipment and labor. All equipment <br />and labor necessary for the inspection or <br />testing of the heating system shall be fur- <br />nished by the .person to whom the heating <br />permit is issued. <br />(d) Concealing uninspected work. No <br />work shall be covered with paint, lath or <br />plaster, or otherwise concealed, before it has <br />been inspected and approved. The Building <br />Official may require the removal of covering <br />which has been placed over any work which <br />has not been inspected and approved. <br />(e) Heating system not used until ap- <br />98 <br />proved. No new or altered heating system, <br />including systems where furnaces have been <br />replaced, shall be used for heating any build- <br />ing until such use has been authorized by <br />the Building Of&cial. <br />(f) Power to seal furnaces. The Build- <br />ing Official may seal, or order the sealing, of <br />any furnace installed in violation of this <br />Dwelling House Code or found to be a <br />hazard to life or property, and such seal <br />shall not be removed without written au- <br />thority for such removal, given by the Build- <br />ing Official. <br />1591.53 Name and address of installer to be <br />affixed. <br />Whenever a new heating system is in- <br />stalled, and whenever any new furnace is <br />installed or an existing furnace is replaced <br />by a person other than the owner of the <br />dwelling, a plate or other permanent device <br />shall be attached to the casing of the furnace <br />on which shall be given the name and address <br />of the installer. <br />1591.54 Incinerators. <br />(a) General. Incinerators shall be in- <br />stalled in conformity with the provisions of <br />this Dwelling House Code and accepted safe <br />practice. <br />(b) Safe practice. Except as otherwise <br />provided in this Dwelling House Code or in <br />statutes or in other' ordinances, conformity <br />with recommendations and requirements of <br />the "Standards for Incinerators," NBFU <br />Pamphlet No. 82, shall be deemed as con- <br />formity with accepted safe practice. <br />(c) Approved types. Every incinerator <br />installed after the effective date of this <br />Dwelling House Code shall be of a type <br />approved by the Board of Building .Code <br />Appeals. Incinerators listed by the Under- <br />writers' Laboratories, Inc. as either Class A <br />or Domestic Type shall be deemed to be <br />approved by the Board of Building Code Ap- <br />peals unless and until by formal action it <br />disapproves the same. <br />(d) Objectionable smoke or fumes. No <br />incinerator shall be installed after the effec- <br />tive date of this Dwelling House Code which <br />is not equipped and constructed so it can <br />operate without producing objectionable <br />quantities of smoke, and so that no objection- <br />able material or obnoxious odors will be <br />emitted from the chimney. <br />(e) Chimneys. Masonry incinerator chim- <br />neys shall conform to the applicable provi- <br />sions of Section 1559.06. <br /> <br />27 <br />CHAPTER 19. FIRE-RESISTANCE RATINGS AND <br />CLASSIFICATION. <br />~' <br />1519.01 Ratings for walls, partitions, col- <br />umns and floor assemblies. <br />The fire-resistance ratings for walls, par- <br />titions, columns and floor assemblies shall <br />be established in accordance with the <br />Standard Methods of Fire Tests of Building <br />Construction and Materials, ASTM E 119. <br />Plywood-covered wall panels shall be treated <br />for fire resistance in accordance with FPL <br />R1257. <br />1519.02 Ratings or classification of doors <br />and windows. <br />The fire-resistance ratings or classifica- <br />tion of doors and windows shall be estab- <br />lished in accordance with the Standard <br />Methods of Fire Tests of Door Assemblies, <br />ASTM E 152. <br />1519.03. Ratings or classifications of other <br />materials or assemblies. <br />Fire-resistance ratings or classifications of <br />roof coverings or other materials and as- <br />semblies shall be established in accordance <br />with ASTM E 84 or other fire tests or stand- <br />ards prescribed or approved by.the Board <br />of Building, Code Appeals. <br />1519.04 Acceptance. <br />(a) Based on test data. Any material or <br />assembly of materials may be approved by <br />the Board of Building Code Appeals for the <br />fire-resistance ratings or classification estab- <br />lished by the fire tests prescribed in Sec- <br />tions 1519.01 through 1519.03, after such <br />tests have been made by an accredited test= <br />ing laboratory and upon submission of such <br />certified test data and pertinent information <br />as the Board may require. <br />(b) Limitations. Any approval or ap- <br />proved ratings or classifications shall apply <br />only to the utilization of the material or as- <br />sembly of materials, or of corresponding <br />materials or assemblies of materials, for fire- <br />resistive purposes in accordance with the' <br />terms of the approval, and when installed in <br />a manner comparable to the test panels or <br />assemblies upon which approval was based. <br />(c) Other physical properties. Irrespec- <br />tive of such approval for fire resistance, no <br />material or assembly of materials shall be <br />used when it ,does not possess adequate <br />strength, durability, and stability for the <br />conditions of the proposed use, or when its <br />use would be in violation of any other pro- <br />vision of this Dwelling House Code. <br />(d) Accredited agencies. Fire-resistance <br />ratings and classifications established by the <br />National Bureau of Standards, National <br />Board of Fire Underwriters, Underwriters' <br />Laboratories, Inc., and determined in ac- <br />cordance with the fire tests prescribed in <br />Sections 1519.01 through 1519.03, shall be <br />deemed to be approved by the Board of <br />Building Code Appeals unless and until,by <br />formal action, it disapproves the same. <br />CHAPTER 21.
