and repair of all plumbing in or about dwell-
ing houses, except as may be supplemented
by other provisions of this Dwelling House
vided in this Dwelling House Code, no drain-
age system, plumbing system or parts there-
of shall be installed, altered, removed, re-
placed or repaired in or about a dwelling
house without a separate permit therefor.
cable provisions for registration, licensing or
certificates of qualification in Chapter 15. .
1593.04 General regulations,
(a) Access. All plumbing fixtures shall
be installed in a manner to afford easy access
for cleaning. Unless otherwise approved by
the Building Official, all pipes from plumb-
ing fixtures shall be run to the nearest wall.
(b) Fittings. Changes in direction in
drainage piping shall be made by the ap-
propriate use of 45° wyes, long- or short-
sweep quarter bends, sixth, eighth or six-
teenth bends or by combination of these, or
by the use of equivalent fittings or combina-
tions, of other types. Single and double
sanitary tees and quarter bends maybe used
in drainage lines only where the flow is from
horizontal to vertical. Short sweeps, not less
than 3 inches in diameter, may be used in
soil and waste lines where the change in di=
rection of flow is from either the horizontal
to the vertical or from the vertical to the
horizontal and may be used for making
necessary offsets between the ceiling and the
next floor above.
(c) Tees and crosses. Tees and crosses
may be used in the venting and water-dis-
tributing systems, Tees and crosses shall not
be used in the drainage system.
- -
(d) Prohibited fittings and connections.
No tee branch fitting having a hub in the
direction opposite to the flow shall be used
as a drainage fitting. No running threads,
bands or saddles shall be used in the drain-
age system. No drainage or vent piping shall
be drilled or tapped. No heel- or side-inlet
on a quarter bend, with the inlet in a hori-
zontal position, shall be used as a vent con-
nection.
moval of any part of a drainage system, dead
ends shall be avoided except where the
Building Official determines it is necessary
to extend aclean-out to a point of access.
(f) Future fixtures. When provision is
made for the future installation of fixtures,
drainage pipes shall be of sizes which will
accommodate future. fixtures, and construc-
tion to provide for such future installation
shall be terminated with a plugged fitting or
fittings at the stack, so as not to form a dead
end, and shall be vented as prescribed in
Section 1593.76.
(g) Free standing stacks. All free stand-
ing stacks shall be rigidly supported at their
base with cradles or pedestals of solid ma-
sonry.
(h) Venting. The drainage system shall
be provided with a system of vent piping
which will permit the admission or omission
of air so that under no circumstance of
normal or intended use shall the seal of any
fixture trap be subject to a pressure differen-
tial of more than 1 inch of water.
1593.05 Materials-quality and weight.
(a) Use of materials. Materials which
conform to the provisions of the standards
listed in this Section shall be approved when
used in accordance with the limitations, if
any, imposed therein. ,
ard specifications for materials for plumbing
installation are listed in TABLE 93A. Prod-
ucts conforming to any of the specifications
listed for a given material shall be approved.
(c) Identi fication o f materials. Whenever
the approved standard requires that such
