Sec. 5, Requirements for Incinerators. No incinerator shall be <br />installed in or upon any^ premises unless it is either of the gas-fired type <br />approved by the American Gas Association under the American Standard Approved <br />Requiremeats for Gas-Fired Incinerators which became effective January 1, 1950, <br />as .modified by any later revisions thereof, and bears the A.G.A.. Blue Star <br />Seal of Approval, or is of the electric pocver type approved by Underwriter's <br />Zaboratories, Inc., and can consume garbage and other combustible refuse, by <br />combustion or de-hydration without emitting offensive noxious or toxic odors, <br />vapors, or gases, and without discharging sparlcs, ash or other residue into <br />the atmosphere. Such incinerators shall be connected only to masonry or re- <br />enforced concrete chimneys. The chimney to which an incinerator is connected <br />must be of adequate capacity for the incinerator and other appliances connected <br />thereto and shall have an aggregate cross-sectional area equal to, or greater <br />than, the combined areas of all vent pipes connected thereto. <br />In addition, the iollowing conditions and requirements shall be <br />observed and shall apply to the installation o£ all incinerators: <br />(a) The incinerator shall be installed as close as practicable <br />to a ehimney and the vent pipe f rom the incinerator shall be <br />connected directly into a verticaZ chimney. <br />(b) The incinerator vent pipe shall enter the chimney from six (6) <br />to eight (8) inches below all other connections to the same <br />chimney o <br />(c) The vent pipe extending iror.i an incinerator to the Chimney <br />shall be of a thickness at least No. 24 U. S. standard guage <br />galvanized steel, or of material having equivalent or superior <br />corrosion and heat resistent properties and the joints thereof <br />shall be secured Uy sheet metal screws; copper and aluminum <br />vent pipe are not permitted for this type of installation, nor <br />shall a draft hood be installed in the ven-t pipe of an incinerator, <br />nor a damper in a f lue pipe. <br />(d) The ineinerator may be installed as close as desired to a brick, <br />concrete, or fire-proof wall but not more than 18" =rom same <br />and at the same tine permit ready access for use and servicing <br />of the unit. A clearance of not less than twelve (12) inches <br />between the sides and baclc, and any combustible wall, shall be <br />required unless suitable means for protection are employed as <br />listed by Underwriters Zaboratoriesm The incinerator must be <br />mounted on non-combustible iloor material such as briclc, ' <br />concrete or tile. <br />(e) The incinerator shall be installed in a location which has <br />suff icient air for the proper and satisfactory combustion of gas <br />and proper ventilation of the room and it shall not be installed <br />in a tightly closed room or sli1a11 closete <br />(r) Gas pressure regulators shall be vented into the combustion <br />chamber adjacent to a cor_stant burning flane or into the f1ue <br />PiPe.
