In case of such ~'loati ng the Contractor shall <br />replace the pipe at iris oyrn expenve, and ?n.:,ke vholly good any injury <br />or d.ama~•e ~~rhich may have resulted. <br />Sec . 7 L~,~'iD JOIi~ITS <br />(a) GI;;•1i~R1~sL: Before la-Jing ~;he pipes all lumps, blisters and excess <br />coating material sha_~ 1 be rer,2oved i'rom both bell and spigot ends, s~•rire <br />brushed, and ti~~riped. clean and dry. The spigot shall be centered in the <br />bell, the pipe shoved. into position and brought into true al.igrunent, <br />secured there with earth tamped around the pipe except at bell holes. <br />Bells shall face the direction of laying except on appreciable grades <br />they shall face ;~phil]_. Sterilized ,yarning material as above specified <br />handled to avoid contamination, shall be applied clry and firmly pressed <br />into the joint. The yarning riiaterial sY?a]_l be long enough to reach en- <br />tirely around the pipe with ends overlapping not less than t~J•o inches. <br />The ends shall. meet on opposite sides of pipe and not on top or bottom. <br />If necessary successive strands of yarning material shall be driven home <br />-8- <br />
