All vacation time shall accrue to an employee on January lst of each year and employees may take their vacation at any time within the calendar year, subject to the approval of the head of the department in which the employee works. 6. In the event an employee voluntarily leaves his employment prior to December 31st of any year, his vacation time for that year shall be prorated pursuant to the following f ormula: accrued vacation daXs days of th.e year (365) X number of days of the year, already passed • = vacation days earned In the event an employee has alreacly taken more vacation time than that to which he is entitled at the time he gives notice that he is voluntarily terminating his employment, the Village of Mayfield shall have the right to withhold all amounts otherwise owed the employee to the extent,necessary to reimburse the Village of Mayfield. 7. Vacations shall not be cumulative, but must be taken within the year earned. Any vacation not taken within the year earnecl shall be forfeited unless specific permission to carry-over vacation time is obtainec7, in writing from the Mayor. 8. Year of employment ref ers to the 12 month period beginning January lst and ending on December 31st. 9.
