Carmen <br />AN ORDINANCE ENACTING SECTIONS 549.01(1) <br />AND (m) , 549.13 AND 549.14 OF THE <br />CODIFIED ORDINANCES OF MAYFIELD VILLAG E, <br />OHIO, PERTAINING TO THE POSSESSION AND <br />USE OF "STUN GUNS" AND DECLARING AN <br />EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, an electronic device known as a"stun gun" has <br />recently been introduced to the American public and is readily <br />available for purchase in the marketplace; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council of Mayfield Village, Ohio, <br />believe that the possession and use of "stun guns", unless reasonably <br />regulated through legislation, may result in acts detrimental and <br />injurious to the persons or property of residents within the munici- <br />pality and to the public at large; now, therefore, <br />BE IT ORDP,INED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />Section 1. Sections 549.01(1) and (m), 549.13 and 549.14 <br />of the Codified Ordinances of Mayfield Village, Ohio, are hereby <br />enacted to read as follows: <br />Chapter 549. <br />Weapons and Explosives <br />549.01 Definitions. <br />As used in this Chapter: <br />* * * <br />(1) As used in Sections 549.13 and 549.14 of this Chapter, <br />a nstun gun" means any electronic instrument, device or thing <br />which produces, emits, or discharges any current, pulse, bolt <br />or charge of electricity, regardless of its voltage, amperage <br />or frequency, and which is designed or specifically adapted <br />to stun, daze, traumatize, incapacitate or paralyze human beings <br />or other animals. <br />(m) As used in Section 549.13 and 549.14 of this Chapter, <br />"criminal offense" mean.s any offense, other than a traffic <br />offense, under existing municipal orclinances, statutes of the <br />State of Ohio or laws of the United States of America. <br />549.13 Possession of Stun Gun for Criminal Purpose Prohibited. <br />(a) No person shall possess or have on his person or
