ORDINANCE N0. 86-15 <br />Page -2- <br />Constitution of the State of Ohio, shall be vested <br />in a Council of five (5) members each of whom shall <br />be elected at large for a term of two (2) years <br />commencing on the first day of January next after <br />their election, or until their successors are elected <br />and qualified. The Municipality shall be divided into <br />four (4) wards as set forth in the Appendix to this <br />Charter, and one member of Council shall be elected <br />from each ward, with the remaining member or members <br />of Council to be elected at-large.°' <br />The question to appear on the ballot shall be as follows: <br />(B) Shall the Charter of Mayfield Village, Ohio, <br />be amended to reduce the term of office of <br />members of Council from four (4) years to <br />two (2) years? <br />In the event that either ballot question (A) or (B) <br />shall be adopted by the electorate, then there shall <br />also be adopted the following transitional section <br />to replace current Section 2 of Article IIT of the <br />Charter. This new transitional section shall be <br />posted at all polling places along with issues (A) <br />and (B) <br />Section 2. Transition. <br />If, at the election of November, 1986, the <br />electorate of Mayfield Village approves, by <br />majority vote, the increase in the size of <br />Council from five (5) to seven (7) members all <br />elected at-large, or, approves, by majority <br />vote, the reduction in the term of office for <br />members of Council from four (4) to two (2) <br />years, then the following shall apply: <br />If the Council is increased in number to <br />seven (7) persons at the November, 1986 election, <br />with all members elected at-large, then all <br />members of Council in office at the time of the <br />General Election to be held in the municipality <br />in November, 1987 shall serve until December 31, <br />1987 at which time their term of office shall <br />be deemed terminated. At the General Election <br />to be held in November, 1987 candidates for <br />all seven (7) positions on the Council shall <br />be elected, with the four (4) candidates <br />polling the highest number of votes being <br />elected for a term of four (4) years and the <br />candidates polling the next three (3) highest <br />number of votes being elected for a term of <br />two (2) years.
