M.V. ORDINANCE N0. 87-8 <br />Page -10- <br />per hour is required to work an 8 hour shift on Christmas Day. He <br />would be compensated at the rate of $17.58 per hour for the 8 hour <br />shift and would also be entitled to 8 hours compensatory time.) <br />4. Compensation for Holiday During Vacation. If a full-time <br />employee is on vacation during one of the above°designated holidays, <br />that day shall be considered a holiday day off and shall not be <br />counted or compensated as a vacation day. <br />5. All full-time employees of the Police and Fire Departments <br />who work the majority of a shift on a holiday shall be compensated for <br />the entire shift in accordance with the holiday pay provisions set <br />forth hereinabove. <br />G. Sick Leave <br />1. All permanent fu11-time employees shall be entitled for each <br />complete eighty hours of service to sick leave of four and six-tenths <br />hours caith pay, except in the Fire Department where they shall earn <br />fifteen (15) sick leave days per year. Employees may use sick leave <br />with the approval of their Department Heads for absence due to <br />illness, injury, exposure to contagious disease, and illness in the <br />immediate family. The appointing authority of each appointing unit <br />shall require an employee to furnish a satisfactory written signed <br />statement to justify the use of sick leave. If absence due to illness <br />exceeds three (3) days, a statement certifying the nature of the <br />illness from a licensed physician shall be required to justify the use <br />of sick leave. Falsification of either a written statement or a <br />physician's certificate shall be grounds for disciplinary action <br />including dismissal. No sick leave may be granted upon or after <br />retirement or termination of employment. <br />2. Any permanent full-time employee who, at the end of a <br />calendar year, has an accumulation of forty-five (45) days unused sick <br />leave and whoo during the same calendar year, has not used any of the <br />sick c3ays earned during that calendar year shall be compensated at the <br />end of the calendar year the equivalent of five (5) days pay without <br />having any days deducted from accumulated but unused sick leave. If, <br />under the foregoing circumstances, the employee has used one (1) <br />earned sick day during the calendar year, then said employee shall be <br />compensated at the end of the year for four (4) days pay without <br />having any of said c]ays cleducted from accumulated but unused sick <br />leave. If, under the foregoing circumstances, the employee has used <br />two (2) earned sick days during the calendar year, then said employee <br />shall be compensated at the end of the year for three (3) days pay <br />without having any of said days deducted from accumulated but unused <br />sick leave. If, under the foregoing circumstances, the employee has <br />used four (4) earned sick days during the calendar year, then said <br />employee shall be compensated at the end of the year for one (1) days <br />pay without having any of said days deducted from accumulated but <br />unused sick leave.
