Carmen AN QRDINANCE ENACTING SECTION 549.11 OF THE CODIFIED ORDIIVANCES OF N1P,YFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, PERTAINING TO REPLICAS OF HAND GUNS OR OTHER FIRE- ARMS AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, over the last several years there have been an increasing number of deaths attributed to the use of handguns and other firearms; and WHEREASo during the same period of time there has also been a proliferation of the manufacture and distribution of "°toy" handguns and other firearms that are near replicas of the actual deadly weapons; and WHEREAS, recent news reports have indicated that even trained police officers often have difficulty in distinguishing between the replica and the actual deadly weapon; ancl WHEREAS, the increase in the use of handguns and other fire- arms has caused police officers and civilians alike to become increasingly alarmed when a handgun or other firearm is displayed by another; and WHEREAS, that apprehension and alarm can cause disasterous results if, in fact, the handgun or other firearm displayed is a replica of the actual weapon and yet the person observing same responds with deadly f orce; and 6JHEREAS, the Mayor and Council of Mayfield Village, Ohio, are desirous of minimizing the risk of physical harm to those persons who are not aware of the potential danger in carrying or displaying a replica of a handgun or other firearm; now, thereforeo BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF DZAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: Section le There is hereby enacted Section 549.11 of the Codified Ordinances of Mayfield Village, Ohio, which shall read as follows: Chapter 549 Weapons and Explosives 549.11 Replicas of Handguns and Other Firearms.
