Ordinance No. 75-11 <br />Introduced by: Mr. Barclay <br />AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING THE REQUIREMENTS FOR <br />THE INSTAI,LATION, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE <br />OF SMOKE DETECTION DEVICES AND DECLARING AN <br />EMERGENCY <br />WHEREAS, the Council of this municipality deems it to be in the interest of <br />the health, safety, and public welfare and for the protection of the lives of the <br />residents of this community to provide for the installation of fire warning devices <br />in all single family and multi-family living units within the municipality. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE,OHIO, THAT: <br />Section l. Compliance Required. <br />a. Prior to the occupancy of any single-family or multi-family living unit <br />erected subsequent to the passage of this ordinance; <br />b. Not later than one year from the date of the passage of this ordinance in <br />any existing multi-family living unit, excluding condominium units. <br />Section 2. Equipment. <br />? a. A control and associated equipment, multiple or single station alarm <br />device or devices, or any combination thereof, may be used to form a household fire <br />warning system. <br />b. The installation of wiring and equipment shall be in accordance with <br />Article 760, Fire Protective Signaling Systems of National Electrical Code, <br />NFPA #70-1975. <br />Section 3. Approval of Equipment. <br />a. Al1 devices, combinations of devices, and equipment to be insialled in <br />conformity with this ordinance shall be approved or listed for the purposes for which <br />they are intended. <br />b. A device or system of devices having materials or forms different from <br />those detailed in this ordinance may be examined and tested according to the intent <br />of this ordinance and if found equivalent, may be approved and authorized for use <br />by the Building Commissioner. <br />Section 4. Definitions. <br />a. Household Fire Waming System: A system of devices that produce an <br />audible alarm signal in the household for the purpose of notifying the occupants of <br />the presence of a fire so they may evacuate the premises. <br />0 b. Alarm Signal: An audible signal indicating a fire condition. <br />I
