<br />t ? <br />-5- <br />b. A smoke detector installed at the head of stairs shall be so located as to <br />assure that smoke rising in the stairwell cannot be prevented from reaching the <br />detector by an intervening door or obstruction. <br />c. A smoke detector installed to protect a sleeping area shall be located out- <br />side of the bedrooms but in the imnediate vicinity of the sleeping area. <br />d. Smoke detectors shall be located on or near the ceiling. <br />Section 15. Installation. <br />a. All equipment shall be installed in a workmanlike manner. <br />b. All devices shall be so located and mounted that accidental operation will <br />not be caused by jarring or vibration. <br />c. Installed household fire warning equipment shall be mounted so as to be <br />supported independently of its atatchment to wires. <br />d. All apparatus shall be restored to normal as promptly as possible after each <br />alaxm or test. <br />e. Upon completion of the system the installer in the presence of the house- <br />holder, shall test each self-restoring device £or proper operation. He shall then <br />instruct the owner on the operation and maintenance of the system. <br />f. The supplier or installing contractor shall provide the owner with: <br />1. An instruction booklet illustrating typical installation layouts. <br />2. Instruction charts describing the operation, testing, and proper <br />maintenance of the household fire warning system. <br />3. Printer information for establishing a househol d emergency <br />vacuation plan. <br />g. The Mayfield Village Fire Department shall be notified of the installation. <br />Section 16. Emergency <br />Council declares this to be an emergency ordinance necessary for the preserva- <br />tion of the public peace, health and safety, such emergency arising out of the necessity <br />to make adequate provision for theā¢installation, operation and maintenance of smoke <br />detection devices without undue delay, in order to correct a situation now deemed <br />undesirable; wherefore this ordinance shall take effect and be in force £rom and after <br />its passage and approval by the Mayor. <br />Adopted: April 21, 1975 <br />PRESID T CJF COi1N IL <br />? / // <br />
