Section 6. Electric blasting caps only shall be used as <br />the detonatingr d- evic s for blasting operations in congested districts, <br />or on highways or adjacent to highways open to traffic. <br />Section 7. Containers of explosives shall not be opened <br />inside a magazine or within fifty (50) feet of a magazine. In opening <br />containers, wooden wedges and either wood fibre or rubber mallets shall <br />be used. DIo metal tools, except brass, shall be used for opening any <br />containers of explosives. Empty container boxes which previously con- <br />tained explosives, shall not be used again for any purpose, but shall <br />be destroyed by burning in the open air. <br />Section 8. No person shall smoke while handling explosives <br />or in the vicin'it~hereof. <br />Section 9. No person shall handle explosives while under <br />the influence intoxicating liquors or narcotics. <br />Section 10. When blasting caps are used, they shall be <br />securely attaoTied to safety fuse with a standard cap crimper. All <br />priming shall be done at least fifty (50) feet from the magazine. Blast- <br />ing caps shall be inserted in the explosives only as required for each <br />round of blasting. <br />Section 11. All drill holes shall be sufficiently large to <br />freely admit t e insertion of the cartridges of explosives. Tamping <br />shall be done only with wooden rods without metal parts. <br />Section 12. No holes shall be loaded except those to be <br />fired at the next round of blasting. After charging, all remaining <br />explosives shall be immediately returned to the magazine. Drilling <br />shall not be started until all remaining butts of old holes are <br />examined with a wooden stick for unexploded charges, and if any are <br />found, same shall be refired before work proceeds. <br />Section 13. No person shall be allowed to deepen drill <br />holes which have contained explosives. Explosives shall not be extracted <br />from a hole that has once been charged or has misfired unless it is <br />impossible to detonate the unexploded charge by insertion of a fresh <br />additional primer or by drilling a hole in close proximity and at a <br />safe distance from the unexploded charge. <br />Section 14. If there are any misfires while using cap and <br />fuse, all persons shall remain away from the charge for tcao hours; <br />if electric blasting caps are used, the waiting period may be reduced <br />to thirty (30) minutes: D1i.sfires shall be handled under the direction <br />of the person in charge of the blasting, and all wires shall be carefully <br />traced and search made for unexploded charges. <br />Section 15. Only the man making wire connections in elec- <br />trical firing shall fire the shot. All connections should be made <br />from the bore hole back to the source of firing current, and the leading <br />wires shall not be connected to the blasting machine or other source <br />of current until the charge is to be fired. <br />-2- <br />
