Agreement Between Mayfield Village, Ohio and the International Association Firefighters, Local 2619 <br />ARTICLE 22 <br />SICK LEAVE <br />Section 22.1. Crediting of Sick Leave Fire Department employees, covered under this contract, shall <br />earn fifteen (15) sick leave tours (1 tour = 24 hours) per year. However, Fire Department employees <br />covered under this contract and hired or rehired after January 1, 2000, shall earn 3.23 hours for every <br />56 hours of service not to exceed one hundred sixty-eight (168) hours of sick leave annually. <br />"Hours of service" as used in this section, includes overtime, vacations, holiday, sick leave and all <br />other approved and paid leaves of absence from service. "Hours of service" does not include the <br />additional compensation time allowed an employee who works a holiday or has their normal day off on <br />a holiday. <br />Section 22.2. Retention of Sick Leave. An employee who transfers from another public agency to <br />Mayfield Village, who has prior service with a public agency in Ohio, shall retain credit for any sick <br />leave earned so long as he is employed by Mayfield Village, except that deduction shall be made for <br />any payment or credit given by the previous agency in lieu of taking sick leave. The previously <br />accumulated sick leave of an employee who has been separated from the public service shall be placed <br />on his credit upon his re-employment with Mayfield Village, provided that such re-employment takes <br />place within ten (10) years of the date on which the employee was last terminated from public service. <br />Section 22.3. Char~in~ of Sick Leave Sick leave shall be charged in minimum units of one (1) hour. <br />An employee shall be charged for sick leave only for days upon which he would otherwise have been <br />scheduled to work. <br />Section 22.4. Uses of Sick Leave. Sick leave shall be granted to an employee upon approval of the <br />Employer for the following reasons: <br />Illness or injury to the employee; <br />2. Illness or injury of a member of the employee's immediate family where it is necessary <br />for the employee to be absent from work; <br />3. Medical, dental, optical examination or treatment of the employee which cannot be <br />scheduled during non-work hours; <br />4. If a member of ,the immediate family residing with the employee is infected with a <br />contagious disease and, through exposure to a contagious disease, the presence of the <br />employee at his job would jeopardize the health of others; and <br />5. Pregnancy and/or childbirth and other conditions related thereto. <br />Page 18 of 35 <br />
