A GUODE TO USE OF THE BOCe <br />NATIONAL PROPERTY MAeNTENANCE CODE <br />The format and provisions of The BOCA Natiorral Property Maintenance Cnde are designed [o provide units of govemment with an <br />effective regulatory means of providing minimum health and safety requirements for existing buildings and structures. <br />The following step-by-step approach is recommended for use in determining the code's application to particular buildings and <br />building uses within a govemmental jurisdiction. <br />1. Determine the occupancy of the building or property in question. <br />2. Determine compliance with the applicable provisions related to the condition and maintenance of the exterior property and <br />structure as set forth in Chapter 3. <br />3. Determine compliance with the applicable provisions related to the condition and maintenance_of features essen[ial to health <br />and sanitation for the interior structure areas contained in Chapters 3 and 4. <br />4. Determine compliance with the applicable provisions for safety, health and sanitation for plumbing, mechanical and electrical <br />systems covered by Chapters 5 and 6. ' <br />5.
