._ . r ORDINANCE NO. 94- 32 INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole AN ORDINANCE PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE XI OF THE CHARTER OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE PERTAINING TO THE CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION WHEREAS, the existing Charter provision for "Charter Review Commission" requires the election of eleven members to the Commission; and WHEREAS, the provisions currently would not facilitate the first meeting of the Commission until January of 1996; and WHEREAS, the current Charter provides for a Charter Review Commission only every ten years, which is too long of a period of time without review and recommendations from members of the community; and WHEREAS, the provisions currently are cumbersome, unrealistic as to the number of elected commissioners to be obtained, and not protective of the health, safety and welfare of the residents of this community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: SECTION 1. That Article XI of the Charter of the Village of Mayfield, is hereby and herein amended to read as follows: ARTICLE XI CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION ° In January, 1995, and each five years thereafter, the Mayor and each member of Council shall appoint one elector each (for a total of 8), who shall be electors of the municipality holding no other office, appointment or employment in the government of the municipality, as members of the Charter Review Commission. Such Commission shall review the Charter, and within five calendar months after such appointment, recommend to Council such amendments, if any, to this Charter, as in its judgment are desirable. The Council may by two- thirds vote of its members submit to the electors not later than the next succeeding general election any such proposed amendments. The members appointed to said Commission shall serve without compensation. Meetings of the Charter Review Commission shall be open to the public. cz>
