.. ? .r..? <br />ORDINANCE NO. 94-32 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />AN ORDINANCE <br />PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE XI OF THE <br />CHARTER OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE PERTAINING TO THE <br />CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION <br />WHEREAS, the existing Charter provision for "Charter Review <br />Commission" requires the election of eleven members to the <br />Commission; and WHEREAS, the provisions currently would not facilitate the <br />first meeting of the Commission until January of 1996; and <br />WHEREAS, the current Charter provides for a Charter Review <br />Commission only every .ten years, which is too long of a period of <br />time without review and recommendations from members of the <br />community; and <br />WHEREAS, the provisions currently are cumbersome, unrealistic <br />as to the number of elected commissioners to be obtained, and not <br />protective of the health, safety and welfare of the residents of <br />this community. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. That Article XI of the Charter of the Village of <br />? <br />Mayfield, is hereby and herein amended to read as follows: <br />° ARTICLE XI <br />CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION <br />In January, 1995, and each five years thereafter, <br />the Mayor shall appoint, subject to confirmation by a <br />majority vote of Council, five electors of the <br />municipalizy holding no other office, appointment or <br />employment in the government of the municipality, as <br />members of the Charter Review Commission. Such <br />Commission shall review the Charter, and within five <br />calendar months after such appointment, recommend to <br />Council such amendments, if any, to this Charter, as in <br />its judgment are desirable. The Council may by two- <br />thirds vote of its members submit to the electors not <br />later than the next succeeding genexal election any such <br />proposed amendments. The members appointed to said <br />Commission shall serve without compensation. Meetings of <br />the Charter Review Commission shall be open to the <br />public.
