Since 1970, the age composition of Mayfield Village's
population has changed markedly. Past trends and projections
based on these trends follow.
HAYFIELD VILLAGE
POPULATION
Under 18
18-44
45-64
65 & Older
Totals
ACTUAL
1970 1980 1990
1,065 760 655
1,055 1,065 1,085
1,160 1,195 980
270 555 740
3,550 3,575 3,460
PROJECTED
1995 2000 2010
735 805 850
1,115 1,130 1,150
1,035 1,080 1,100
815 885 900
3,700 3,900 4,000
Sources: 1970-90 U.S. Census of Population and Housing; and
Robert C. Hill projections.
Similar 1970-90 trends occurred in Cuyahoga County, the I-
271 Corridor and Mayfield School District. In particular, the
School District's population under 18 declined from 10,465 to
5,400, or by 48.4$. Its 1990 percent of the total population in
this age group was 16.4$, compared to 18.9$ in Mayfield Village.
Between 1980-90, the population under five increased from
1,165 to 1,485 in the School District and from 115 to 155 in
Mayfield Village.,, Based on these trends and 5-year cohort of
survival projections, the School District and Village
populations under 18 are likely to both represent 21.5$ of their
respective total populations by 2010.
The relatively stable past trends in Mayfield Village's
population between 18 and 64 will probably continue. Thus, its
projected 2010 populations between 18-44 and 45-64 will be 1,150
and 1,100, respectively. The key variable will be the kind of
future housing available in the Village.
The percent of Mayfield Village's total population over 64
was only 6.7$ in 1970, compared to 21.4$ in 1990. Again, the
future housing inventory will play a major role in determining
the population in this age group. Based on the housing
projections given later in this chapter, at least 900 persons,
or 22.5$ of the total population, will be over 64 by the year
2010.
HOUSEHOLDS
A household is one or more persons living in a housing
unit. Since 1970, the characteristics of Mayfield Village's
households have changed significantly. ~ Past trends and
projections based on these trends follow.
5
