II
POPULATION
This chapter identified and projects trends in Mayfield
Village's population, households, housing and school
enrollment. The projections are used with other analyses to
articulate the goals and objectives of the Comprehensive Plan in
Chapter VI.
Mayfield Village is part of the I-271 Corridor and Mayfield
School District, situated in northeastern Cuyahoga County.
According to the U.S.
Census, between 1970-90,
Cuyahoga County's population
declined from 1,721,300 to
1,412,140, or by 18.0$. The I-
271 Corridor dropped from 72,175
to 67,980, or by only 5.8$.
Thus, 4.2$ of the County's
population lived in the Corridor
in 1970, compared to 4.8$ in
1990.
Ohio Data Users Center
projects that Cuyahoga County's
population will be 1,255,800 in
the year 2010. Assuming
conservatively that 5.5$ of this
population will reside in the I-
271 Corridor, its 2010
population ~ should be
approximately 69,000.
Mayfield School District's
population declined from 33,995
in 1970 to 32,065 in 1990, or by
5.7$. Thus, its percent of the
I-271 Corridor increased
slightly to 47.2$ in 1990.
Based on school enrollment
projections by the School
District discussed later in this
chapter, the District's total
population may approach 33,500,
or 48.6$ of the Corridor, by
2010.
4
