projections, the Village will be almost fully developed by the
year 2010. The projections assume that one family housing units
(conventional detached units) will continue to represent 78.0
of all units. Thus, 255 such units could be built between 1990
and 2010. Since no additional apartments (renter units with
over four units per structure) are possible, up to 75 other
housing units (attached one family or cluster units) are
projected to be added in tandem with new conventional
homebuilding. These projections are related to residential
development options in Chapter III.
SCHOOL ENROLLMENT
According to the U.S. Census, between 1970-90, Mayfield
School District's school enrollment (public and private grades K-
12, and nursery school) declined from 8,650 to 4,390, or by
49.2. Mayfield Village enrollment dropped from 990 to 540, or
by 45.5$. Thus, the Village's percent of the School District
rose from 11.4$ in 1970 to 12.3$ in 1990.
Past trends and projections based on these trends, and the
preceding projections of the age composition of the Village's
population, follow.
HAYFIELD VILLAGE
SCHOOL ENROLLMENT
Grades K-12
Public
Private
Nursery School
Totals
$ of School
District
ACTUAL PROJECTED
1970 1980 1990 1995 2000 2010

790 520 325 365 415 440
180 115 120 155 180 185
20 60 95 110 135 155
990 695 540 630 730 780
11.4 12.0 12.3 12.4 12.8 13.0
Sources: Op.cit.; and Mayfield School District 1992-98
projections, 10/92.
As already noted, between 1980-90, there was a substantial
increase in the population under five in both Mayfield School
District and Village. Based on this trend and five-year cohort
of survival projections, total enrollment in the District and
Village will approach 6,000 and 780 by the year 2010.
Future public and private enrollments, grade K-12, in
Mayfield Village are likely to follow 1970-90 trends. That is,
of all such pupils, at least 70.0$ probably will continue to be
enrolled in public schools. Projected nursery school enrollment
will rise from 95 in 1990 to 155 by 2010. These projections are
related to school needs which are considered in Chapter V.
