IV
COMMUNITY FACILITIES
This chapter describes Mayfield Village's existing community
facilities and projects its future needs for such facilities.
Separate analyses of schools, recreation, city services and
other facilities are presented. Options are then given. The
options are used to formulate the Comprehensive Plan's goals and
objectives in Chapter VI.
SCHOOLS
Characteristics of
public schools follow.
SCHOOL
Elementary (K-5)
Center
Gates Mills
Lander
Millridge
Middle School (6-7)
High School (8-12)
Totals
Mayfield School District's existing
YEAR 1992 PUPILS PER
OPENID CLASSROOMS PUPILS CLASSROOM

1924 19 470 24.7
1924 7 140 20.0
1956 25 460 18.4
1959 24 490 20.4
1924 47 545 17..6
1963 90 1,460 17.8
212 3,565 16.8
Source: Mayfield School District, October 1992 enrollments
excluding 65 pupils at Millridge Center for the
Hearing Impaired.
All of the above schools are situated on adequate sites
which are well located to serve the School District's needs.
Extensive improvements and classroom additions have been made.
Present ratios of pupils per classroom are all below the
generally recognized standard of 25 pupils per classroom,
although enrollment projections by the School District indicated
that more classrooms may be needed. A citizen task force is
currently weighing these needs.
Center Elementary and the School District's Administration
Building are located in Mayfield Village on a 12.0-acre site at
Wilson Mills/SOM Center. No major change to these facilities or
the site are foreseen, although the Mayfield Center Plan (Map 3)
suggests that certain site modifications should be considered in
relation to planned municipal facilities. The continued use of
Center Elementary's playground, and the possible location of a
new playground behind Mayfield High School's stadium near
Ridgebury Boulevard are recommended, also.
I7
