..-TR __ _
~ f,
}
~ 1
p,v_ rage Daily Traffic (ADT): Increases in the I-271 Corridor's
ADT have far exceeded its growth in population.
population: Between 1960-70, the populations of Cuyahoga
County, the I-271 Corridor and Mayfield increased considerably.
Since then, they have declined. The Village's decline (2.5~)
was the least significant.
~`~ Changes in population characteristics are itemized on Table
~~ 1, Between 1970-90, the median age and percent of persons over
64 years old rose markedly in the County, Corridor and
~' Mayfield. The Village's 1990 median (44.8 years) and percent
(21.4) were much higher than in the County, but somewhat lower
than in the Corridor.
,,~~
~'~~ The percent of persons under 18 years old in the County and
Corridor declined sharply between 1970-90. Mayfield's 1990
>_ percent (18.9) was lower than in the County, but about the same
,~.
~; as in the Corridor.
Per Capita Income: Increases in per capita income, expressed in
constant dollars, have been substantial in the County, Corridor
and Mayfield. The Village's estimated 1990 per capita income
($25,500) was almost twice as large as in the County and $2,450
larger than in the Corridor.
Housing Units: The 1970-90 declines in the populations of
Cuyahoga County, the I-271 Corridor and Mayfield, but increases
in their housing units, are explained by the sizeable drop in
average household sizes. Similar to the County and Corridor,
the Village's average declined from 3.2 persons per household in
1970, to 2.5 in 1990.
Since 1970, the percent of owner-occupied housing units has
risen in the County and Mayfield, but declined in the Corridor.
In 1990, the Village's percent (79.8) was significantly higher
than in the County or Corridor.
Owner and renter vacancy rates remained relatively stable
between 1970-90 in the County, Corridor and Mayfield. The
Village's 1990 owner and renter rates were 1.0~ and 6.1~,
respectively.
After accounting for inflation, the median value per owner-
occupied housing unit and median rent per renter-occupied unit
rose markedly between 1970-90 in the County, Corridor and
Mayfield. In 1990, the Village's median value ($138,900) and
rent ($685) far exceeded the respective medians in the County
and Corridor.
2
