Ordinance 97-23 <br />2. Compensation For Holidays Not Worked. If not required to work on paid holidays, afull-time employee <br />shall be entitled to receive pay at his regular rate of compensation on such holiday on which he has not <br />worked provided, however, that if any employee without just cause (as determined by the head of his <br />department) fails to report to work on a regularly scheduled work day immediately preceding or <br />immediately following such holiday, he shall not be entitled to compensation for the holiday not worked. If <br />an employee's work schedule is other than Monday through Friday, he shall be entitled to a day's regular <br />pay for a holiday observed on his day off, regardless of the day of the week on which it is observed. <br />Compensation For Holidays Worked. If a full-time employee works on one of the above-designated <br />holidays, he shall be compensated at the rate of one and one-half (1-1/2) times his hourly rate for each hour <br />worked and shall be given compensatory time off equal to the number of hours worked, with such <br />compensatory time off to be first approved by the department head. (For example: A Class B Sergeant <br />earning $11.72 per hour is required to work an 8-hour shift on Christmas Day. He would be compensated at <br />the rate of $17.58 per hour for the 8-hour shift and would also be entitled to 8 hours compensatory time.) <br />4. Compensation for Holiday During Vacation. If a full-time employee is on vacation during one of the <br />above-designated holidays, that day shall be considered a holiday day off and shall not be counted or <br />compensated as a vacation day. <br />5. All full time employees of the Police and Fire Departments who work the majority of a shift on a holiday <br />shall be compensated for the entire shift in accordance with the holiday pay provisions set forth <br />hereinabove. <br />H. Sick Leave <br />All permanent full time employees shall be entitled for each complete eighty (80) hours of service to sick leave <br />of four and six-tenths (4-6/10) hours with pay not to exceed one hundred twenty hours annually, except in the <br />Fire Department where they shall earn fifteen (15) sick leave tours (1 tour = 24 hours) per year. Employees may <br />use sick leave with the approval of their department heads for absence due to illness, injury, exposure to <br />contagious disease and illness in the immediate family. The head of each department shall require their <br />respective employees to furnish a written signed certificate to justify the use of any sick leave taken. At the <br />discretion. of the department head, or anytime an absence due to illness exceeds three (3) days, or three (3) tours <br />in the case of fire fighters, a statement certifying the nature of the illness from a licensed physician shall be <br />required to justify the use of sick leave. Falsification of either a written statement or a physician's certificate <br />shall be grounds for disciplinary action including dismissal. No sick leave may be granted upon or after <br />retirement or termination of employment. <br />2. Any permanent full time employee who, at the end or their first calendar year of service to Mayfield Village, <br />has an accumulation of forty five (45) days, or tours in the case of fire fighters, unused sick leave and who, <br />during the same calendar year, has not used any of the sick days earned during that year shall be compensated <br />at the end of the calendar year the equivalent of five (5) days, or five (5) tours in the case of fire fighters, pay <br />without having any days deducted from accumulated but unused sick leave. Sick leave accumulation lawfully <br />transferred from prior public employees shall be included for purposes of this section. If under the foregoing <br />circumstances, the employee has used one (1) earned sick day, or tour, during the calendar year, then said <br />employee shall be compensated at the end of the year for four (4) days, or tours, pay without having any of said <br />days deducted from accumulated but unused sick leave. If, under the foregoing circumstances, the employee <br />has used two (2) earned sick days, or tours, during the calendar year, then said employee shall be compensated <br />at the end of the year for three (3) days, or tours, pay without having any of said days deducted from <br />accumulated but unused sick leave. If, under the foregoing circumstances, the employee. has. used four (4) <br />earned. sick days, our tours, during the calendar year, then said employee shall be compensated at the end of the <br />year for one (1) day, or tour, pay without having any of said days deducted from accumulated but unused sick <br />leave. <br />Page 12 of 17 <br />
