~~ u; <br />i <br />NIAYFIEILD VILLAGE FIRE DEPARTMEI~lT <br />JOB DESCRIPTIOhI <br />CLASS DESIGNATION: Assistant Fire Chief /Fire 1Vlarshal <br />DEFINITION: The Assistant Fire Cluef /Fire Marshal is the second in command of the <br />organization and shall be responsible for the daily operations, and Fire Prevention. The Assistant <br />Fire Chief /Fire Marshal is vested with the powers set forth by the applicable provisions of the <br />Ohio Revised Code, the Ohio Administrative Code, and the Charter and Ordinances of Mayfield <br />Village. <br />ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: <br />The Assistant Fire Chief /Fire Marshal of Mayfield Village shall be responsible for the safety <br />and protection of the residents, employees, and patrons of Mayfield Village, of those in all <br />mutual aid communities and with reducing the risk of emergency calls in the community. In <br />order to accomplish this, the Assistant Fire Chief /Fire Marshal assists the Fire Chief in <br />departmental operations. The Assistant Fire Chief /Fire Marshal directs, and reviews activities <br />of personnel performing fire prevention activities, fire suppression activities, rescue activities, <br />and emergency medical services; initiates and advises on the development of ordinances and <br />regulations; revises, develops, and enforces Mayfield Village fire, building, zoning, plumbing, <br />mechanical, electrical, and rental housing codes; directs all activities of the Fire Prevention <br />Bureau including administration of Mayfield Village Ordinances as adopted, and permit <br />procedures; makes recommendations to the Mayfield Village Council for the establishment and <br />maintenance of an adequate fire defense; directs the preparation of reports for Village officials; <br />prepares department budget estimates; supervises the preparation and maintenance of records <br />and reports; prepares long-range plans for the development of the department; meets with <br />community groups and officials to explain and improve departmental programs; prepares <br />specifications for fire apparatus; directs firefighting; supervises subordinate officers in the <br />development and operation of fire training and fire prevention programs; directs fire prevention <br />and arson investigation activities and coordinates activities involving insurance companies, state <br />and federal agencies; coordinates activities of the department with those of departments <br />responsible for water service on problems relative to fire protection; may respond and take <br />charge of emergency calls when on or off duty; directs the inspection, and permitting of fire <br />prevention activities; studies the standard rating schedule of the Insurance Services Office and <br />prepares plans for improving the Mayfield Village's rating; snakes assignments and supervises <br />subordinate officers in the care and maintenance of the station and equipment; reviews reports on <br />departmental activities; supervises tests of equipment and inspections of personnel, equipment, <br />and quarters; attends conferences and meetings on fire prevention and extinguishment problems; <br />drives vehicles as needed; requisitions supplies; approves payrolls; prepares articles and delivers <br />speeches, reviews, revises, implements and enforces the Fire Department's Rules and <br />Regulations, Policies and Procedures, General Orders, Informational Bulletins, Personnel Orders, <br />and any lawful verbal orders; recommends and/or implements disciplinary actions when <br />required. <br />~.>.: _ _ <br />a "-'• - <br />
