Roll Ca11: Ayes _ P'lessrs S~,ranson,Strater,Taylor,whit?~g,8eard ~ Oa.tess.
Nays ~ None.
Motion carried
Resolution passed
Mayor Endress then asked our Engineer for the water main plans and
specifications on Highland Road and Ste'! Center. Our Engineer reported that these
were in the hands of the City Water Department, wino insisted that they also
pass on them, and he hoped they would be available for our next meeting.
Mr. Edelman reported that he had checked with the County and that
the most we could add in special assessment obligations was X60,000.00, but
this would change if some of the abutting property owners on the four mains
now in process pay in cash. The Clerk then asked about abutting property
owners paying in cash after assessments were certified and bonds sold.
~jr. Edelman said that if these assessments were paid in full, ,it would
have to include interest for the full period.
The Mayor then asked i.f there were any bids for the paving of Worton
Park Boulevard. Our Engineer reported that they were to be advertised for
our next meeting and he trould have everything ready for acceptance.
Mayor Endress asked for a report from •the Safety Committee regarding
I'Ir. Leppelmeier. 1"~°. ~r~hiting reported that. he had talked with Mr. Leppelmeier
about the bids for gasoline and thought that he had that matter cleared up.
He said that he wished to get the gasoline bids straightened out first, and
would then .have the Safety Committee consider Mr. Leppelmeier's resignation
from the Fire Department. The Clerk then showed Council a copy of the
request-for bids given to both gasoline stations and reported that he had
received a bid from Mr. Leppelmeier but none from the other station. Mr.
Z^~iting said that he would prefer to have both bids on the table before
making any decision. At this point, Fire Chief, Nelson Porter, said that
Mr. Leppelmeier had aslted to resign although he had done everything possible
to keep him and that it should be -taken care of by the Safety Committee at
once; that he had expected a committee meeting, but none had been called.
Mr. Whiting replied that he would not call a meeting unless someone notified
him of a necessity for meeting and up to the present time no one had called
him for this purpose. •
• Mayor Endress suggested that the second Monday of every month be
set aside for a Safety Committee meeting and if there was nothing to consider,
the Committee should adjourn and so report to Council. After considerable
discussion on the pro's and con's of committee meetings, Mr. Whiting said
that he would ca71 a meeting at-7:00 P, Ms on Council meeting night to take
up the little every day things and if .there was anything important,, would
call a meeting and give it the full treatment. Although Mr. Strater did not
think this would give sufficient time for a meeting, Mayor Endress suggested
that it be tried out and called this to the attention of Mr. Porter, Mr.
Wieland and Mr. Di~:on, who were present.
Mr. Porter then asked that Mr. Ti~Yu ting call a meeting to consider
Mr. Leppelmeier's resignation from the Fire Department, but Mr. -Whiting
was adamant in not considering this matter until the gas bids were cleared.
I~~. Sw~ son asked how many men were available during the day and Mr. Porter
said six or eight usually. rlr. Swanson said that he felt that we should
keep 1`~r. Leppelmeier in the Fire Department if we had to do a little begging.
2.
