Roll Call: Ayes- Messrs Hardman, Seheuring,Godfrey,Cass 8e Hall. <br />- _ Nays -..None. . <br />.- Motion Carried. <br />M'r. Kader, Secretary of the Safety Committee, read the minutes <br />of the April.-11th meeting of that committee. Plfayor Swattson read to Council <br />the recommendation of the Safety Coimnittee concerning appointment of a <br />second regular-police officer. fir. VYhiting suggested that, because of the <br />expense involved, Council go slowly in adding new persotu~el to the Village <br />payroll, pointing out that Highland Heights and Richmond Heights each had <br />only one-regular employee, vrhereas Mayfield Village now has three and by <br />this proposal it would increase the number to fouro Mr. Scheuring mentioned <br />the financial burdens already levied or proposed for the Villagers in the <br />form of taxes, water assessments, mortgage payments and the like and asked <br />the Council to proceed vrith caution® <br />Mr. ~'~iting suggested that George V'Tieland could assume the <br />additional duty of policeman while in the perforffiance of his regular duties <br />already assigned to him. Mayor Swanson said that this Village is very <br />dii^ferent from Richmond Heights and Highland Heights because of the amount <br />of road work we have here. Mr. Dixon addressed Council, stating that the <br />Village should have an additional full-time police officer so as to have <br />protection to at least 2:00 o4clock A. M. I~Ir. Hall suggested that action <br />concerning the appointment of~a second xegular policeman be postponed <br />and that~meauwhile a special policeman be appointed to serve as required <br />by the Chief of Police. ' <br />At this point Mr. Taylor arrived at the meeting. <br />Mr. Hardman introduced Ordinance No. 34S entitled: "An <br />Ordinance Amencling Section 3 of Ordixtarsce No. 325, entitled: 'An-Ord3.naX3ce <br />to Repeal Ordinances Nos. 254 and 299 and to Provide for the Office of <br />Special Policeman' by Reducing the Rate of Pay of Special Polieeman~" <br />which orclinaxtce iras read to the Council. It was moved by Mr. Godfrey, <br />seconded by Mrs. Cass, that the rules- of law requiring an ordinanco to be <br />read on three separate occasions be suspended. <br />Roll Call: Ayes> Mestrs Hardm.an,Scheuring,GodfreyeCass & Hall. <br />Nays -None. . <br />Motion Cax°ri®d <br />- Rules Suspended <br />It was mov®d by Mrs. Cass, seconded by Mr. Scheuring, that <br />Ordinance No. 348 be passed as read, <br />Roll Call: Ayes- Mrssrs gardman,Scheuring~Godfrey,Cass & Hall <br />Nays - PTono. - - <br />Motion Carried <br />Ordinance Passed <br />Mayor Swanson appointed Herbert Lepplemeir as a Special Polico- <br />man.
