Cass left the meeting. <br />C hiaf Dixon addressed Council, stati~ag that one of the Oates <br />children and one of his own were almost hit by automobiles last Monday when <br />alighting from the school bus. The Chief said that no pol2.ce were on duty <br />Mondays and that when it came~to a ehoice between X10.00 or X12.00 extra <br />expense and a life, the proper decision seemod obv~.ous. Mayor Swanson said <br />that we couldn°t expect the po].i.eeman to work seven days a week and asked <br />that Council authorize the additional a xpense of a special policeman during <br />the day on Mondays. The Clerk noted that, wi th two regular policemen and <br />one special, it would appear that proper organization would provide all <br />necessary Protection for the school children and, in addition, have a <br />policeman on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a v~reek. Council inquired into <br />the situation, found that arrangements could be made to have a policeman <br />on duty during the day on Mondays, and made several suggestions to the <br />Police Chi ex' as to how the situation could be handled. <br />1 <br />Mayor Swanson asked the Safety Committee Chairman, Mr. Taylor, <br />why there had been no meetings recently of the Coar°mittee. Mr. Taylor <br />stated that he would be glad to call one any time there was anything to <br />consider and added that he had received no noti ce of any questions or <br />problems that the Committee should consider. <br />Mr. Hardma~i introduced Ordinance No. 386 entitled: t°An Ordinanc® <br />Providing for the licensing of Public Vehicles", which Ordinance was given <br />its first readi~?g before C®uncil© . <br />2. <br />
