Oatess, that Ordinance No. ~t~30 <br />be passed as read. <br />Roll call: Ayes -.Waltz, Endres., Scheuring, Cass & Oatess <br />Nays -None. <br />Motion Carried <br />e ~ Ordinance Passed <br />Mayor Swanson brought up the. matter of the. proposed merger with <br />Highland.Heights_. .Although no further :action has been .taken, i.t was suggested <br />'pert on the nght..of. the meeting~,in Highland Hei.ghts..that t:ao Council members <br />and the Clerk: of. each.Qillage.meet, and check inter the muter.. Mayor Swanson <br />asked Dr. Waltz, and Mr..Endress,,. to_serve in. this capacity. Mr. Endress <br />did not wish to do eo, and thought perhaps 1~dr. Sloan would be interested <br />in doing this. Since Mr. Sloan was absent, the matter was dropped until he <br />could.be contacted. <br />Mayor Swanson advised Council.. that Mr. William S. Doremus was <br />present with Police Chief Dji.YOn, and after readi.ng.Mr. Doremust qualifications <br />to Council, asked that his-. appointment.as...Special.Palice be~approved~ for. a <br />period not exceeding three months. <br />~It was molted by Mr. Oatess, seconded-by Dr. Waltz., that the appoint- <br />ment of Mr.~Doremus~~as.Special.Policeman be approved.... ' <br />Roll Call: Ayes -V4raltz, Endress, Scheuring, Cass & pat~ess. <br />Nays -None. . <br />Motion Carried <br />.Appointment Approved <br />Mr. Doremus' bond was presented, and he was then sworn into office <br />by Mr. Arnold Edelman, a Notary Public. <br />Mr. Endress reported one. matter. of business which had been discussed <br />at the meeting of .the. Safety and Servi.ce.Committee.. With the present system <br />of police .telep}aones, it is necessary, for either. the Dixons :,ors McMasters to <br />be near the, phones ., at- all, .times. ~ Since .Mrs. Dixon.. and McMaster are not <br />available~at all. times thru the. day,. it has been. necessary for the .Police <br />Chief to spend .much of .his., ,time at home .taking police calls, .and the patroling <br />and regular.poli.ce duties. have not. been .done. The Committee felt it Would <br />be advisable to instal], a tape recorder on one of ,.,the phones. The message <br />would be recorded, and aperiodic-check would .enable the~Chief to keep tab <br />on calls as well as doing his.regular patrol work. Any emergency calls would <br />be called into the police radio by University Heights. .The cost of this •. <br />unit is X15.00 for installation, and.~12,50-per month service charge. <br />It was moved. by fir.. Scheuring,_se_conded by Dr. Waltz, that the Tape <br />Recorder.
