<br />Dlayor Endress read a letter of resignation from the Fire Department by <br />Dan Pokorney who stated that he has moved from the Village. It was moved <br />by Mr. Bennett, seconded by b4rm Grootegoed, that the resignation be accepted <br />with regret. The Motion was unanimously carried. _ <br />Mayor Endress then read a'letter f rom Herman M. Schwentker, resiging <br />from the Fire Department, because he stated that he would be unable to do <br />justice both to his worlc and to his duties as a Fireman. -The Mayor stated <br />that he would refuse to recommend acceptance of this resignation, because <br />of different reasons which were reported as to the cause of the resignation <br />and he referred the same to the Safety and Service Committee. Mr. Schwentkes, <br />who was present, stated he had nothing to add. Mr, James Plastine,.commenting <br />on the article in the recent issne of the Sun-Messenger, said that there is <br />no.mass desire to resign. He said that we have an excellent Fire Department, <br />but not an excellent Chief. He complained that the Chief did not partieipate <br />in drills, does not know how to operate the expensive equipment, and does not <br />cooperate with the Mayor, and further that this situation has been in effect <br />for 2-1/2 years. Mrs. Brown said that it was high time that Council finds <br />out what is going on in the Fise Department. She has-recommended a full <br />investigation of the Fire Department by the Council and the Mayor. Mre <br />Plastine further said that there was not suff icient supply of Oxygen at <br />times for the tanks and that this had been reported to the Chief. Mr. <br />Bordonaro said that the Chief had authorized him to fill the tanks with <br />Oxygen but Mr. Plastine stated that the sapply of Oxygen had been dangerously <br />low. Further discussion on this matter followed, Nra Schcaentker, who has <br />been in charge of the equipment, was questioned about its condition. <br />The Yiayor recomm2nded that the matter of investigation of the Fire <br />Department be submitted to the Safety & Service Committee: Mr. Grootegoed <br />stated that the Committee would investigate. Complaint was made by Mr. Duffy <br />regarding lack of eooperation in the matter of the 'July 4th Carnival on <br />which the Fire Department lost money. <br />. Mr. Howard Schulz cbmplained that he had not received a detailed <br />report regarding a recent barn fire in which some oE his personal property <br />was stored and was destroyed. Chief Porter stated that he would give him a <br />copy of the report and that such a copy was now in the Mayor's possession. <br />Chief Porter stated that one of the boys involved in the f ire had confessed <br />but that he.had not checked on tfie other boy. Mre Boles also requested <br />and was promised a-copy,of •the Fire Department 'report: 'A4r.
