After some further discussionOrdinance No. 721 was left on its. second
reading.
There was nothing to report from the Architectural Board, the Safety
and Service Committee, or the Building Committee.
Mr. Wedler reported that the Zoning and Planning Board had met, but
as he had not received a copy of the Minutes, had nothing to report to Council
as yet. .
NIr..Zorn, reporting for the Finance Committee, said that he had checked
the Pay prdinance and found all the bills in order, Mr. Peterson then reported
that he was holding bills for the re-surf acing of certain streets and was
sorry to.get them in so late, but had to check them.
It was then moved by NIr. Zorn, seconded by Mr. Belzer, that Pay
Ordinance No. 448-P including these re-surfacing bills be approved and passed
as read,
Roll Call: Ayes - Messrs Zorn,Wedler,Bennett,Brown,Grootegoed & Belzer.
Nays - None.
Motion carried
Pay Ordinance Passed
Mrs. Brown then asked that the Clerk make a check f or the Cemetery,
Mayor Endress_then read a letter from Fire Chief Porter, asking that
the hearing on charges be postponed. Mayor Endress then suggested that a
meeting be set up in January for this hearing. Mr. Bennett asked if the hearing
could not be postponed fox- 60 or 90 days. Thefact that Mr. Porter had not
attended a Fire School was then brought up and it was brought out that Mr.
Porter had never asked to attend such a school. Mre Hejcl then reported that
schools f or Firemen were held every Summer for two days and a numUer,of the
firemen had attended. The charge for this was $1.50. Mr. Hejcl said a1so,
that the By-Laws of the Department spelled out the duties of the Fire Chief
quite clearly.
Mayor Endress said that a hearing date should be set, as charges had
been made and unless Council thought differently, something should be done
about it. Several of the Firemen then entered a heated discussion with Council
as there appeared to be a misconception of results of a meeting with the
Safety arid Service Committee, with Mr. Duffy thintcing that the Committee had
said that Mr. Porter was to ask for a postponement, write out a list of his
duties and everything would be all right.
It was then moved by Mr. Belzer, seconded by Mr. Wedler, that January
23a 1961, at 8 o'clock P. M., be set as a date for a hearing on these charges.
. Roll Call: Ayes - Messrs Zorn,Wedler,Bennett,Broivn,Grootegoed & Belzer.
Nays - No neo
Motion carried.
3.
