Minutes of the Regular Meeting
July 17, 1961
The Council of the Village of Mayf ield met in regular meeting at the
Town Hall at 8;00 P.M., Mayor Endress presiding.
Roll Call: Present - Messrs. Zorn, Wedler, Bennett, Brown, Grootegood,
also Mr. Weiss, Assistant Engineer,
Absent - Mr. Belzer.
, The Minutes of the Regular Meeting of-June 19th, 1961, were then read
to Council. It was moved by Mrs. Brown, seconded by Mr. Zorn, that the Minutes
of the Regular Meeting be approved and passed as read.
Roll Call; Ayas - Messrs. 2orn,Wedler,Bennett,Brown & Grootegood.
Nays - None.
Motion carried
Minutes Approved
Mayor Endress then read a letter f rom Benjamin Reich, asking that an
application f or Re-Zoning a vacant lot in the rear of 736 and 740 SOM Center
8oad, be heard at the present Council Meeting. The Zoning and Planning Commis-
sion had recommended that this be tabled for six months. Mr. Wedler,'speaking
f or the Zoning and Planning Commission, then read the request for subdivision
of this lot and the motion approving this and said that at the June 12th meet-
ing the request for rezoning had been turned down until the Regional Planning
Commission had submitted a master plan; so the matter was tabled for six months.
Mr. Reich then.appealed to Council:-t.o.consider this request directly. The ques-
tion of a Master Plan then came up and Mr. Reich said that, if we had a master
plan six years ago, we could not have widened Wilson Mills Road and.mentioned
Ridgebury Boulevard on the agenda for an inner belt f ive years ago. Mr. Reich
said that-after a time a master plan became obsolete, and spoke of this property
as being close to that now zoned for Commescial and of the State Yard with its
pile of cinders and slag, and spoke of some'o£ our commercial places along SOM
Center and, after showing Council plans for a garage, compared this building
with what we now had in a commercial way. Mre Reich said that they had been
offered a goodly sum by the state for this property, but it would bring no taxes
into the Village. Mr. Reich said that this garage was as important to his
client as the High.Rise was to Mr. Cutting and'appealed to Council to look upon
it in that light.
Mrs. Brown said that she had gone down and looked at the property and
did not see how it could be turned down; that she did not understand the think-
ing of the Zoning and Planning Commission.
Mayor Endress then pointed out that the Zoning and Planning Commission
did not turn this request down, they merely tabled the matter. Mr. Zorn then
asked how long tfiis master plan would take to evolve. Mr. Wedler said that they
had a meeting with the Regional Plan and were trying toget some idea of how much
1.
