As his probatianary period had ended, Mayor Endress appointed Mr.
tiJilliatn Shortle as a permanent pol.iceman. It was moved by Nr. Edelman, a Notary Public, then administered the Oath of
Office to Mr. William Shortle.
As 111r, Keith Dunbar had also s erved hi.s probationary period as Pol.ice
Chief, he was appoznted by Mayor Endress as permanent Chief of Police of the
Village of Njayfielde It was moved by TxTr. -Falk, seconded by Nrse' Brown., that
this appointment be confirmed.
Roll Call: Ayes - Messrs Wedler, Brawn, Falk and Hopkinso
Nays - None. '
Motion carried
Appointment Confirmed
lir. Arnold M. Edelman, a Notarg. Public9 then administer.ed the dath
of Office to Mro Dunbar, Mayor Endress then reported.on a meeting he had attended in Painesvi].le.
This meeting was held to establish the center line of the Freetaay. This
was a very informative discussion and much that was suspected and much that
was puzzling was cleared up. Mayot Endress went on to say that he had taken
a firms tand against -the freeway as planned, for various reasons, all of
whichiere detrimental to'the growth and`character of our Village. Some of
these reasons enumerated were, that the center line of the fr'eeway suppased
to be on the Mayfield-Highland Heigh-cs border line, was now moved so that
the ^road was mostly in our vil7_age; that, despite -the resolution passed by
Council9 an interchange was planned at H±g?d, Wilson Mills, Ridgebury
and Nayfield Roado Mayor End.ress also objected -to the tiride curve of the road
to es.cape the golf course and the proposed shopping center in Mayfield Heights.
This curve, besides costing an addition,al fo? mill:ion dollars would lay was-te'
to one of the few choice areas not yet devel.oped. Mayor Endress ended by
saying that there was nothing more we could do at present, but Tfrhen it came
time to approve by ordinance the pa-th of the road through our village, Council
would have an opportunity to delay matters.
Mayor End.ress then asked for a report 'from the Commit-tee appoin-ced to
inspect the temporary road in the Gerome and the Capretta development. Mr.
Hopk3.ns said that they had inspected this area and were not at all happy
with -the conditions founde Instead of a slag road, they found a road star-ted
wi.th bank gravel, zshich was contrary to our ordinance and could not be approved.

2.
