A member of the audience then asked that if there was no commercial
re-zoning of the south sid2, would there be a motel and gas station area on the
south side? Mayor Endress said yes. Mayor Endress said, however, that this
ordinance had not been passed, Mayor Endress was then asked if Mr. Henry had
proposed this ordinance. Mayor Endress said, No, the Village of Mayf ield had
proposed it, that it had been requested by Gouncil. Mayor Endsess was then asked
why the 13 families on the South-side had not been told about-this=ordinance,
that they felt that they were.nothing but a buffer or snow fenee for the venture.
Mayor Endress then gave a long and detailed explanation of how this re-zoning
came abouta There were some coc?ments from the audience about the fact that we
should wait 2 years for the entire planning bef ore doing anything. Mr. Edelman
then told of all the pressure that had been put upon Council and the Zoning and
Planning Coffimission to-re-zone-the area for ffiany things that might be undesirable
and there was a need to zone this area beeause there was so much property that
was not zonedfor anything. Because of the high state of feeling of the audience
Council decided to hold another operi hearing on the subject and:set a special
meeting of Coancil for 7:30 P. M. Friday, June 8, 1962, and an open hearing
f ollowing this Council meeting at 5:00 P. M. on the same date.
It was then moved by Mr. Belzer, seconded by Mr. Zorn, that a Speeial
Meeting of Council be held on Friday, June 8, 1962, at 7v30 P. M. in the Town
Hall to consider Assessment Legislation on the Worton.Park-water maans, and to
hold an open hearing on the interim plan at 8:00 P. Me directly f ollowing this
Council Meeting, Roll Call; Ayes - Messrs Zorn, Wedler, Bennett, Mason, Sloan and Belzerm
Nays - Nonem '
- • Motion carr-ied
Mayor Endress then took up the open hearing on the Truck Ordinance and
asked Council what theq were going to do. Council then adjourned f us ten minutes
to consider this ordinance. Mayor Endress again called Council to order at 9s10
P. M. May 21, 1962, At this point Mayos Endress interrupted the proceedings to
hear our Fire Chief, Mr, Nelsmn Porter,
Mr, Porter then addressed Council and sai-d that for many years the Fire
Department had organized various things to raise moneyy such as home days, turkey
saffies, white elephant sales, etco, and with thfs money had bought additional
equipment f or the Fire Depastment.- Mr. Porter said that this equipmeat had never
been formaYfly turned over to the Village and that-now, on behalf of the Fire
Department and himself, he wished to present to the gillage $9,000.00 worth of
f ire equipment. Mro Porter then presented to Mayor Endress an itemized list of
this equapnent. At this point, a Press Photographer took pictures of Mayor
Endress rec'eiving this equipment from Mro Portera Mayor Endress then thanked Mr.
Porter on behalf of the Village and Council and himself -and went on to tell of
the very fiard work and the many many things that the Firemen had entered into
to get=the money for this equipment: Mayor Endress=said that the r2sidents -did
not know how much the Firemen really had purchased witti money saised in tliis way
and mentioned that this was but a part of it; that other'equipment had been
turned over to the Village at variotxs times and mentioned the $900.00 spent f or
the Civil Defense Siren or? top of th& Town Hall.
2.
