long time. Mr. Mason said that Mr. Leppelmeier did not like a closed fence,
so he suggested an ornamental Eence. It was then brought out that Mr. Bordonaro
was allowing equipment to be stored between his store and the Hassinlc Hardware
and Mayor Endress ordered this to be gotten out or the equipment would be ticketed
by our police. Mr. Edelman said that he would asic the Regional Planning Commission
what they would suggest, and try to present an ordinance to put intn the
Comprehensive Plan. Mr. Edelman said that he would have this f or the next
meeting< Mr. Edelman said also that we would have to give Mr. Bordonaso a notice
first and he would check with Mr. Mason and f ind-out what to do.
Mayor Endress then read a letter from the Mayf ield Village Community
C1ub, thanking Council for the $250.00 towards the Summer Playcraft Program,
Mr. Belzer, reporting f or the Safety and Service Committee, said that
they had met on October 1, 1962, and Mr. Shortle had -presented the problem of
the Freeway Boundary Line.? This boundary line exists over some portion of the
Freeway in the exact center of one lane and presented a problem should an
accident arise. Mr. Shortle felt that this matter should be discus3ed with
Highland Heights; Mr. Shortle also thought that the Villages of:Mayf ield,
Highland Heights and Mayf ield Heights have an emergency cross over at their
south boundary lines. Mr. Shortle also asked that we consider the use of a
loaned car f rom the Buick people, if we but furnish the gas, oil and insurance.
Mr. Shortle sas aslced to obtain complete informatiora for the next meeting.
Mayor Endress sai:d that Mrm Shortle had brought over a letter stating that the
Harvey Radio would rent us a radio for this car for $25.00 per month together
with $35s00 for installation. There was considerable discussion in Council
about this matter and Mre Shortle was asked to give a more detailed account
of the matter. -
Mayor Endress then told Council that the Mayors had been invited to a
luncheon by the State Aighway Department; that some questions were asked and
they explained what they were doing; that there was one thing of interest to all;
that when the Freeway was opened;it would be opened to May£ield Road; that there
was considerable doubt on the route to Chagrin, but it is expected to open about
the 15th of November, - the spur into Euclid after December. The question was
asked, who would patsol the Freeway and that it was the intent of the State
Highway Department that they would patrol the Freeway. Asked if they thought it
would be patrolled in a satisfactory manner, they said it was up to the
municipalities if this was not satisfactory. They suggested that the communities
get together and decide upon one of them patrolling each week. The speed limit
would be 65 miles per hour. Accidents and f ires were up to the municipalities
tu take case of.' Mr. Belzer said that this pointed up the necessity of having
the boundary line down the middle of the Freeway.
There'was a great deal oF discussion in Council on stopping for school
buseso Buses were letting kindergarten pupils out on the wrong side of=:the
road, which was dangerous. Mre Briggs, present at Council, gave quite a
discussion on the matter and stated his fears of something happening to one of
the pupils. There was also some discussion as to a divided highway and whether
Wilson Mills could be considered as such and whether cars should stop for a
schaol bus regardless of its direction. rir. Edelman said that our own osdinance
applied in the Village, and if we wanted the cars to stop, they wonld have to stop.
20
