' Motion carried <br />Ordinance Passed <br />Mayor Endress then read a letter from the Regional Planning Commission <br />asking f or additional money on the interim plan. Council then.discussed this <br />matter and referred it to the Finance Committee. <br />The East Ohio Gas Co. asking f or approval of plans covering proposed <br />construction of gas main and service between sidewalk and curb on East side <br />of Zorn Lane, North of Metro Park Drive as indicated in red on their print <br />of drawing No. D-8556, Sheet No. 1 of 1, dated December 30, 1960, and revised <br />November 21, 1962, and enclosing inspection fee, 'it was moved by Mr. Mason <br />and Mr. Sloan that approval be granted. Roll Call; Ayes - Messrs [Jedler, Bennett, Shaia, Mason, Sloan & Belzer. <br />Nays - None. ' Motion carried <br />Plans Approved <br />Mayor Endress then read a letter from the Highway Departnent with <br />reference to patrolling on the Freeway and gave Council a short discussion on <br />the subject and mentioned some meetings he had attettded and spoke of the Ohio <br />Turnpike Police, saying that they have 130 police working 40 hours a shift, <br />making ten men on the road per shift. We do not have any assurance tfiat we <br />have anyone on the Highway, but if we make a practice of going up there it <br />does not take long and someti.mes becomes advantageous. Mayor Endress said <br />thatwe were always called in on 'accidents. rir. Mason felt that our men had <br />enough to do without sending them up to patrol the Freeway. Mr. Shortle said <br />that he was in favor of a highway patrol in cooperation with our own policee <br />He said that they did not have aliy fire or other equipment, however. Then he <br />asked if we were going to tell these people that we have no jurisdiction. <br />There was a great deal of discussion in Council on this matter as to how long <br />and what they do in patrolling this road and wtiether we should stay off. <br />Mayor Endress then asked for a poll of Council on patrolling of the <br />Freeway. Mr. j+Iedler said yes, Mr. Bennett said yes,,, Mr. Shaw said yes, Mr. ' <br />Niason did not vote, Mr. Sloan and Mr. Belzer also°said yes. <br />Mayor Endress then read the reports from the various departments. <br />6.
