Mr. Clarence Schweb, a resident o£ Metro Park Drive, then
petitioned Council to be heard on their problem of flooded basements on
Metro Park Drive on the South side of the street from Mr. Busa to SOM Road.
There was f rom 2 to 3 feet of water in their basements,.which was clear
water and evidently backing up into the sewer from samewhere. This is a
subject that has come to Council many many times with a great many theories
of what causes it and what can be dotte to alleviate the matter. Nothing
so far has seemed to work and Council is thoroughly in the dark as to the
layout of the sanitary sewer, having no plans to go on and no one who seems
to know just where and how this sewer was laid. There was a gseat deal
of discussion with the residents present with £eelings mounting to the
bursting point.
Mayor Endress again told these people that this was strictly
a sanitary sewer to take care of their septic tanlcs and not a storm sewer
and eould not be used as such and that we cannot be responsible f or any
bther drains that might be connected into this sewer; that there were
only two possibilities, one that the residents held themselves or put in
a storm sewer and pay f or it. Mr. Peterson said that this sewer was not
designed for.footers and drains but was big enough to take their septic
tanks. The residents then gave Mr. Belzer the name of a man who knew about
this sewer and Mayor Endress aslced Mr. Belzer to get him into the Safety
Committee and question him about the sewer. Mre Belzer said that he knew
the man and would do:this. Mr. Belzer and Mr. Sloan then said that they
had an idea of their own and would go down and look at the area.
There being no further business to come before Council, upon
motion made and duly put, Council adjourned.
/1
4154 41
Mayor - President o£ Council
Attest:
v?
