4,
Mr. Januska stated that it can't be corrected in two weelcs, or two
years. The County will have to be prepared to fix the breaks as soon
as they happen.. They can't be involved in .temporary action .but only
the long range measures. A new system will have to be considered and
cost evaluated and Federal Funding secured. ~ "
Mayor Beebe stated that everyone is talking like this as a new problem.
It is_not. There.~?as been spillage and breaks for the past 10 years.
We need a solution now, not in 10 years. What is going to be done to
solve a horrible situation in our town?
Mr. Flynn requested a copy of the riavens/Emerson report. Also, suggested
Mr. Hovancse]c's study re yard wells be resurected. He suggested the
sewage (creek;)~)be enclosed in pipe all the way, to the river.
Mr. Christman stated that ichis.would be expensive and .a study would have
to be made before any action could be taken. Gravity sewer is .the
solution but that"is 10 years away or a new force main casting approxia-
mately $1,500,000.00. The County and the C.R.S.D. will have to work
together. - _
Mr. Odeal, C.R.S.D., stated that temporary solutions may, create problems
in other areas: We feel the 20 years old force main is the problem. To
spend a half of a million dollars .on temporary measures.. before the study
is complete would be a waste of money. We have to be cost conscious
and if. they are fined (suggested earlier),. the people. are the ones that
are actually paying.
Mr..Boger questioned the fact that everyone is aware the sewers won't
stand anymore force and yet building permits are still being issued.
A progressive solution is being taken.
Mr. Flynn stated that the Village is only 50/ developed and it doesn't
seem right that we 'should be a dumping-ground for the other municipalities.
Mr. Odeal stated that the bulk of sewage.is~beirig generated by Mayfield
Village..
Resident questioned the purpose :cor the holding tank and.. Mr. Odeal
clarified that it was for excess storm water. The overflow of the"Beech
Hill Pumping Station is causing the seG,rage.
Mr. Flynn stated that it appears that the problem is.that it is too
expensive (according to Mr. Odeal) and-notYiirig can be done. He requested
a report of the problems in the neighboring communities for comparison.
He suggested Federal Funding be solicited to put a closed pipe to the
river .
Mr. Odeal stated that it takes five to ten years of negotiating to get
Federal Fund", %~,
