187
Special Council Meeting
11/13/91
Page Three
This will be a major expense. Mr. Heller said the plan relates to several variances which he
explained Mr. Heller said Progressive has had several meetings with representatives of the
Worton Park Home Owner's Association. Progressive has hired a landscape architect to survey
along Worton Park. Potenrial plans aze to add evergreens and spruce trees to create a buffer. He
further described the plans for-the azea which include the installation of a berm. Mr. Heller said the
plan, as they presented it to the home owners, seemed to be acceptable to them. He said that two
or three meetings were held with Mayfield Heights residents. Mr. Heller explained how the plan
was updated and modif'ied from the plan they made three years ago.
Mayor Carmen asked the cost of the modified plan.
Mr. Heller said the cost of the landscape azchitect would be approximately $70-75,000, the berm
would be an additional tens of thousands, besides clearing what is there. Mr. Heller said the
residents asked if they would consider moving the berm twenty feet further away. However, it
would cost them 90 parldng spaces to do so and there is a certain amount they need to satisfy their
own demands.
Mr. Heller explained the paiking situarion. He also explained the proposal for a natural buffer
which includes building the mount up. Because the pazking lot is lower, they must have a 900'
retaining wall (at a cost of $100,000.) He described the visual buffer that would exist in five
years.
Mr. Rinker asked about an addirional parking deck.
Mr. Heller said structured parking would cost approximately $6-7,0004 car, so that would not be
as feasible as the other options. He said they also consider the visibility of such a structure from
their offices an important considerarion. 'Because they want to be a first-class facility for their
people, they did not want to add any more structures to that side.
Mayor Carmen said that in previous conversarions the issue had always been dollars. They had
preliminarily talked about sharing the cost.
Mr. Chokel said they have found that this oprion would cost about $600-700,000 more than
anticipated previously.
Mrs. Mills asked if Mr. Hovancsek had seen the drawings. -
. Mr. Hovancsek had not seen the drawings but had discussed relocaring the sanitary sewer and
putting in a retaining wall with them.
Discussion was held about parldng.
Mr. Heller said to move an additiona120' it almost would not be noticed. Also, for that magnitude
of dollars to gain 20' is not a substantial gain. They want to have parking at a reasonable distance
for their employees.
??
