1_88
Special Council Meeting
11/13/91 Page Four
Mr. Rinker said he would like the representatives of the two different groups to address us at this
time. He asked 7im Teresi, a Mayfield Heights Councilman, to address Council for the residents
of Mayfield Heights. Mr. Rinker asked that Mr. Teresi abide by the 5-minufe limit when he
addressed Council. Then, Mr. Rinker said, we will hear from Bob Leppla from the Worton Pazk
area. Mr. Teresi, Councilman. Cit, o? f Mayf'ield Hei h?ts - said he attended the meetings and supports his
residents one hundred percent. The 16' they aze asking for is not the 60' they initially went into.
1VIr. Rinker asked if Mayfield Heights might share in this cost to accommodate the additional
expense. He said he does not expect an answer tonight.
Bob I.ennla, Worton Park Home Owner's Associarion - said they were'piesented with three
options. He said they want to work with Progressive; they are not here to throw stones. He asked
that they please take that row of parldng out. He said they will accept their second option but ask
that Council consider the 0.007% over 20 years.
Mr. Rinker asked how long it would take to get the hard cost for adding a deck.
Mr. Chokel said that decisions as to the type of material (concrete vs. steel (and how heavy),
guardrails, and lighring) would have to be made.
IV1r. Rinker said there are two issues in question--one is the cost; the other is aesthetics for
employees of Progressive.
Mayor Carmen said that based on the dollars generated in taxes (they thought $150,000 was not an
insignificant number) but in ratio to what they would gain, it is a small percentage. If that is
something that would protect the residents and make them happy, Council would be inclined to
think about it.
Mayor Carmen questioned if Mayfield Heights would like to contribute to the cost of a pazking
structure if we want to go to a parking structure. If so, Mayfield Village and Progressive would
share the cost equally.
Mr. Teresi said his residents aze here and have something to say. He said he would relinquish his
five minutes to allow them to speak.
A Mayfield Heights resident read a letter to Council from the residents. She also showed a
diagram of how the parking structure would be seen from their back yards, living rooms, and
bedrooms.
A gentleman from the audience said he thinks Council should consider what the structures would
look like. He said that Mayfield Heights put up a mound by their salt bin and thinks it was very
effectively done. He suggested the residents talk to their elected officials about getrirng dollazs from
Mayfield Heights. .
The resident said he thinks it would be a shallow argument since they will not benefit in terms of
tax dollars.
