29
Special Council Meeting
1/24/94
Page 5
capacity to outlet. So, because of the storm sewers are shallow, we really couldn't or
can't obtain enough storage capacity.
Mrs. Cinco: Are there further questions from Council?
(0 Mr. Ste?hens: Yes. Could we go over the cost figures you have related to putting this
(O in the ravine versus the cemetery site.
co
Q Mr. Cappello: Do you want me to go over the cost estimate?
z
C Mr. Stephens: Yes, please.
G
Mr. Cappello: Basically, the ravine site cost estimate originally comes out to be around
$229,000. The reason for the breakdown is detention pond excavation including
disposal of unused excavated materials. We are looking at about 7,600 cubic yards. A
price we had obtained from a local contractor stated that it would be $10 a cubic yard to
excavate and dispose it. $3.50 is for excavation and $6.50 is for hauling and disposal.
Dam excavation and embankment. We have approximately 9,550 cubic yards. Now, if
we use material from the site, it will be $4 a cubic yard. If we have to haul in material
off site, he said it would be $8 a cubic yard. Site clearing, we estimated about $5,000.
Again, that is a rough estimate based not on actual field study. The outlet structure
including outlet piping,l0 walls and erosion control--tlie ravine site with pipe and
unknown outlet structure at this time--we assume in the area of $60,000 for all the
appurtenances needed for the outlet sfiructure including the facility. We have put a
price in of $8,000 for fencing, site restorafion and miscellaneous for $12,000 and access
drive construction and reconstruction of $30,000. And that totaled the $229,000.
Mr. Stephens: That does not include purchase of land.

Mr. Cappello: Correct. And, at the Whitehaven site, we had two cost estimates, but the
one lighter one, based on the three foot free board--the total is $451,000. The other one
was $573,000. But ignoring that one and using the $451,000 estimate, the major
difference between the two sites is the detention pond excavation and disposal of
material. The Whitehaven site has approximately 34,000 cubic yards that need to be
removed and disposed of. The embankment needed to construct a dam is smaller. It is
only 2,900 cubic yards. Plus, you are not bridging over a large area like you are at the
ravine site. Site clearing is approximately $4,000. The outlet structure including all the
outlet pipe in the head walls and erosion control--you are looking at approximately
$45,000. And it's less because it is not such a large site. Fencing is approximately
$10,000. Site restoration approximately $25,000, and excess drive reconstruction is
