113
Special Council Meeting . .
4/10/94
Page Eleven
extra time to revisit this, spend an extra week, while you all have a little time to do some
alternative problem solving that meets number one our safety needs. If at the same time
it makes it more convenient, God bless you. But right now I am concerned about lives.
I think you have the resources (and financial resources) in this community to meet our
short and long-term needs. Can we have that opportunity, Mayor?
C?
M Pam Koehler. 6838 Deenwood Lane, said it doesn't matter how long it takes you to get
M somewhere. It is the idea that everybody that lives in our development goes down
Q Metro, Zorn, et cetera, you can't get out. If you are going to have to pay to have a
z policeman there, why not go across to Highland, you are not going to need a policeman
? all the time. I was told that doctors don't have to get to the hospital
in an emergency because there is people in the hospital that handle problems. Now, I
challenge any of you to do to Hillcrest Hospital with a stroke and have nurses treat that
stroke. My husband does that. An extra 15 minutes is your life or your ability to walk.
Chief Stevens said I regret you were told that by someone from the police department.
Mayor Rinker said we could coordinate such emergencies through 9-1-1 so doctors who
need to get south could do so.
Chief Stevens concurred that if the police department would know of the need, they
could do so.
Mayor Rinker said we are going to be staffing that construction site more than I think
any of us was really thinking we would have to do because of safety.
Mrs. Cinco said concerning manpower, can you summarize that what you gave to .
Council, not necessarily figures, but she is interested in having people know manpower
already in the construction zone.
Chief Stevens said if you are speaking of the memo that I addressed to the Mayor about
the proposed or anticipate cost of police service for this, I just wanted the Mayor to be
aware that the cost for manpower doesn't just exist in the construction zone, which of
