263
Regular Council Meeting
10/17/94
Page Eleven
Mr. Diemert asked if he would liken it more to a health facility where people exercise.
Mr. Paris said yes, a health facility with therapeutic results.
Discussion was held.
(D Deborah Singer, a physical therapist, said she will be the Director of the Center. She
CO explained that primarily, they do industrial rehabilitation which is very different than
? neurological rehabilitation. They go into the industries and offer them contract services
where they offer to watch their production lines (with the use of a video camera) and
z recommend they make adjustments to their conveyor belts et cetera to keep their
C workers compensation costs down (so people do not become injured and become
C patients.) They do injury prevention courses, back courses, telling people how to lift
better. Most of the work is done on site at the different industries. When a worker is
injured, then they come into their facility and they design work simulation programs
where they work through strengthening and exercise to get the worker back to their job.
They currently have 4 employees. They may see approximately 4 patients an hour--
possibly 15-20 patients a day.
Mr. Diemert asked what kind of parking is available for that building.
Mr. Paris said they have about 40 spots.
Mrs. Cinco asked if Council would be more comfortable if Planning and Zoning looked
at, they could refer it to the Planning Coxnmission for their vote before Council votes on
it. Mrs. Cinco asked Mrs.lVlartin if this could be placed on the agenda for this
Thursday. ,
Mrs. Martin said she had talked to Mr. Schulte and he will allow it to be placed o n the
agenda; however, Mr. Samac is on vacation and will not be available Thursday.
Mr. Diemert asked if Ms. Singer would be able to make a similar presentation to
Council Thursday.
Ms. Singer said she would be happy to. There has been a tremendous interest from the
industrial community to get this going as soon as possible, so she is a little concerned
about the time.
Mrs. Cinco said Council does not feel comfortable tonight voting on a variance. Their
concern is that the Building Commissioner will not be here Thursday night for the P&Z
Workshop.
