Special Council Meeting
1/7/93
Page 4
Chief Mohr said this is a procluction vehicle, not a demo; the $390,000 figure includes
the modifications--everything they need.
Mr. Basile asked how many sets of hose it will have.
Chief Mohr said the hose will be transferred from 613. He showed Mr. Basile the picture
(one in the front, two up here, one on the back.)
Mr. Fixler said he has discussed all his questions with Chief Mohr. His questions were
as follows:
1) Regarding the potential insurance rate hikes in the future by not having this
truck--this would not only save the industrial complexes in the Village money, it would
save the homeowner money down the road.
2) The way the homes are being built today, presently the Village does not have
equipment that would be able to sufficiently put a fire out, that they can get to the
second floor safely and in a timely fashion to save lives. To him, that is extremely
important. Progressive is important, but because it affects the rest of the Village he
fihinks this is a good thing.
3) They were going to replace one fire truck anyway. If they are going to look at
one truck versus another, he thinks it is a very worthwhile premise.
Mr. Rinker referred to the memo from Chief Mohr dated December 2,1992. It refers to
the fact that the pumper had to be replaced. The ISO will be looking to the fact that we
need a ladder to get to the second stories. As long as we don't have building over 50
feet we will have access with this truck. We will have sufficient pumping capacity with
this truck and the Federal axle ratings will be met with this.
Mr. Rinker asked the Clerk of Council to incorporate the letter from Chief David Mohr
of December 2,1992, to these minutes.
Mr. Fixler asked if anyone has made any progress with Progressive Insurance over this.
Mr. Rinker said he contacted Chuck Chokel from Progressive Insurance. He
acknowledged that Progressive in principal is agreeing to assist. They certainly don't
want to underwrite this. How far they are going to go, he thinks it will probably be a
modest amount. They have asked to meet with them to discuss it. He certainly does
not look for them to underwrite this; it is going to be our responsibility.
