Regular Council Meeting
6/21/93
Page Four
Dr. Tom Wilson, 814 Hanover Road, said his complaint is about a local builder. He
thinks Council needs to reaccess his ability to do business within the city and whether
or not he should be issued any further building permits. Dr. Wilson said the contractor
has a past history of having his licenses revoked either permanently or temporarily, in
neighboring Villages including Highland Heights. Dr. Wilson said he had a new home
built in Hanover Woods with multiple violations that were never picked up by the
Building Department. He cited several examples of the problems they encountered
including: missing insulation, excessive water damage, inadequate ventilation, roof
leaks, major cracks in the basement, and a gas leak. Additionally, they had a black
concrete driveway put in which now looks like it is 30 years old; it is pitting and worn
out because it was put in improperly. Dr. Wilson said the man is building a house next
door to him; one of his workers was tal<en away by the Cleveland Police in handcuffs
while his children played next door. There is filth all around the house; bottles and cans
and building debris strewn all about. Dr. Wilson said this man is well known to Gus
and to many members of Council. He asked how the Village allows this man to
continue; to issue him permits allowing him to build--and to build this kind of a
structure--without inspecting the structure. Dr. Wilson many subcontractors have come
through his house and could not believe his house could have ever passed inspection.
There were so many blatant problems with the house; he has probably accrued about
$30,000 with repairs on a brand new house. Dr. Wilson said they are planning litigation
against the Village because there was improper inspection of this home. He thinks the
Council needs to examine is this man fit to do business in the community.
Mary Kay Bozza, Mayfield Hei h?ts, announced her candidacy for Judge of the
Lyndhurst Municipal Court. She said would leave some literature; she welcomes
suggestions and criticisms of the current Court and what people would like to see as
their community Judge.
Tom Marrie, 6711 Walnut Drive, said there has been talk at some meetings about some
severe water damage in their yards due to improper water flow. Mr. Marrie said the
properties along Walnut and Thornapple have been getting worse. In a typical
rainstorm,l2' of water will be in his house. They are losing major trees and would like
to ask for support of Council to see that this is tal<en care of.
Mrs. Cinco said there will be more discussion about this under "New Business" and
there will be a motion to approve this expenditure.
?
1
