Regular Council Meeting <br />8/16/93 <br />Page Two <br />COMMENTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT CINCO: <br />Mrs. Cinco had no comments. <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS: <br />1VIr. Amendola reported that the culvert pipe at Eastgate and Meadowood has been <br />replaced. All they need to do is seeci it. Regarding the swale at Thornapple and <br />Walnut--they found there was a swale at one time (maybe 30 years ago.) The roots were <br />difficult to remove. They have about 12 hours of hard work to get through their end of <br />the worlc. The sewer installation should be done by mid-August. They rented <br />additional equipment which will override the cost of the project by $500. Mr. <br />Amendola reported that as far as the streets are concerned, about 90% or better has been <br />cleaned up. There is more to be done in the baclc yards. The Amish came in to help. <br />The men did an excellent job; some putting in 180-190 hours lifting branches. We owe <br />thanks to the Cify of Willoughby for the use of two trucks and drivers and to King . <br />Excavating and Suglia. Mr. Amendola said they do not have all the figures as yet. They <br />have filled the compost site and the east side of the service site by Don Ray. <br />Mr. Hovancsek said plans for the Highland/SOM Center Intersection are complete. <br />Bids are due later this month. We have received the 8th year Issue II application which <br />will be due later this year. <br />Mr. Diemert said regarding the initiative petition for the Charter Amendment that was <br />filed--Council has an obligation to forward it to the Board of Elections. The Charter <br />requires he prepare legislation, so it is included on the amended agenda this evening. <br />The option of Council to not send it down does not exist pursuant to the Constitution <br />and the Charter of Mayfield Village. The legislation must be forwarded (to the Board of <br />Elections) no earlier than 120 days and no later than 60 days (or before September 2.) <br />He recommencis getting it down by the end of August. <br />Chief Ivlohr had no report. <br />Mr. Brett reported that Assistant Finance Director Susan Harrison had twins--a boy and <br />a girl. Cheryl is upstairs--on vacation. Susan will be off for 12 weeks. They will be <br />busy in the Finance Department for the next few weeks. <br />Chief Stevens had no report. <br />Activities Committee - There was no one present to report.
