Regular Council Meeting
12/20/93
Page Seven
Mayor Rinker explained about a year and a half ago, we approved a variety of things
(such as the flower fund) to be charged to a promotion and benefit account. We would
like to purchase a food platter for all departments for the holidays as a special thank
you to employees. Not a lot of communities do this. Mr. Brett explained that since this
was covered in detail in an ordinance, he feels to be on the safe side we should bring it
as a motion to Council.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All
NAYS: None
Motion Carried
Increase Authorized
Wilson Mills Concrete Barrier - Mayor Rinker said he attended a meeting Thursday
with N.O.A.C.A., Mayor Swanson, and Marty Gallito (from the County Engineer's
Office). Progressive has requested the removal of the concrete median on Wilson Mills
(between Alpha & I-271.)
Mr. Hovancsek explained that removal of the median would allow for about 6 more
cars in the left-turn lane going into Progressive.
Mayor Rinker said he would like to move forward if we can. It will alleviate traffic by
providing better ingress into Progressive.
Mr. Hovancsek said both communities received a letter from Lou Bloomfield stating
that Progressive is agreeing to pay $35,000 for this work.
Mr. Fixler said if you move the left-hand lane more eastward, would cars coming off the
freeway not be able to get in and tie up traffic on Wilson Mills all the way down?
Mr. Hovancsek said it has a slight benefit; it has a value. And, the municipality would
not be paying any monies.
Mayor Rinker said that both the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Couniy
Engineer feel this would be a plus; an immediate benefit.
He explained how Progressive will be phasing in (additional personnel) in 4 increments.
Mr. Basile commented that traffic may bottleneck going into the Sunoco station without
the median.
Mr. Hovancsek explained the road would not be striped to go into the Sunoco station; it
would be striped for cars going into Progressive.
