Regular Council Meeting
4/15/96 Page 7
Council President Fixler asked if this was mentioned with the previous homeowner
prior to purchasing the home.
Mr. Fortunato said it didn't enter his mind because he assumed they had lived there 20
years so it was something that was not a problem. Mr. Fortunato said after we bought
the house, they mentioned the car had gone over that embankment once and had to be
pulled out. That is when he took a closer look and tried to put cars in the garage. He
believes it is a safety factor.
Council President Fixler asked if there were any other alternatives of making that
turnaround.
Mr. Baum not with the space and the setbacks that are required.
Dr. Parker asked if there is anything that can be done with the garage--to make a wider
space (more clearance) lo be parking into.
Mr. Baum said from a construction standpoint, it would be more difficult from the way
the garage was constructed. The gables are on the side, not facing the front; the trusses
go front to back. If you extended it toward the front, you would virtually have to take
out the trusses and get new trusses (which he thinks could be done, but if it could face
the front, it would be a lot easier and more cost effective.) To make a 3-car garage, the
trusses would stay where they are and you would add more trusses.
Mrs. Cinco asked if they are changing it to a three-car garage.
Mr. Fortunato said yes--but it does not have to be.
Mr. Baum said in order to drive straight in, you would almost have to add that much.
Council President Fixler said it is important to note the three home they are referring to
(with garages that face the front) are on the older section of the street.
Mr. Buckholtz asked if there is presently any landscaping along the side. He asked if
there any possibility of using rock and railroad ties to create a border so you can't fall
off--is
Mr. Fortunato said he believes there is 3' beyond his driveway.
Mr. Buckholtz said the drop off is on your property and then there is another 3' of your
property at a lower point.
Dr. Parker asked how much of Mr. Fortunato's property goes beyond the drop off and
the potential for adding another 2 1/2' of width to the driveway.
