Regular Council Meeting.
4/15/96
Page 6
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None
Motion Carried
Approval Granted
(with contingencies)
Consideration of A1212eal re BOA Case No. 96-3• Request for a variance regarding garage
door - Proj2erty Owner: Mr. and Mrs. Fortunato 910 Beechers Brook
Council President Fixler asked the property owner to come forward.
Mr. Fortunato and Mr. Baum (a Civil Engineer representing Mr. Fortunato) came
forward.
Mr. Diemert administered oaths (to tell the truth) to Mr. Fortunato and Bruce Baum (a
Civil Engineer.)
Mr. Baum said he has been asked by Mr. Fortunato to assist him in providing a
turnaround for his garage area on Beechers Brook. Mr. Baum said the problem is that
Mr. Fortunato's wife, because of the geometry of the layout, would have a hard time
pulling out of the garage because there is a fall of about 30" from the back side of the
apron of the parking lot. By rotating the garage and facing it toward the street, she
would be permitted to drive directly into the garage without having to face the
turnaround--which they think this is a hardship in this case because of the way it is
boxed in about 3 feet away from the property line. Mr. Baum said Mr. Fortunato would
like to add onto the garage so they would be able to drive directly into the garage and
utilize the garage in that manner.
Mr. Fortunato said they can not get two cars in the garage now--when one car is in the
garage, it is almost impossible to get the second one in. Mr. Fortunato said there is a
safety feature about backing off of that--if we have any visitors, the guests pull into the
drive and the passenger may fall off of the edge. He does not feel that would affect the
appearance of the street because there are three other homes with garages facing the
street. The garage would be 8' in from the property line--it would not be right on the
property line. He said they are looking for approval on that.
Council President Fixler asked how long they have lived at the property.
Mr. Fortunato said they bought the house in December and are moving in tomorrow.
Council President Fixler asked the size of the turnaround.
Mr. Samac said he did not measure it, but it is probably about 20' or so.
Mr. Fortunato said it is 19'.

I
?
