Regular Council Meeting
September 16, 1996
9

Mayor Rinker said this is in response to the collective human cry of many residents-in Mayfield
Village and Highland Heights and anyone else who comes in offthe side streets on Wilson Mills-
about the sequencing of the lights. He had hoped we could say this is what it looks like now and this
is what it is going to look like, but it is hard for them to do that without starting from scratch.
Mr. Hovancsek said they will do a traffic study and redesign the timing of the intersection and then do
new computer software. Then they will play with it for about 60 days after they put it in to fine tune
it to minimize the amount of time the side streets have to wait before they can get out onto the main
street when there is not traffic on Wilson Mills Road.
Mayor Rinker said we may find that it will not change at peak times. We are talking about
coordinating from Lander to S.O.M., going through a major traffc zone at the High School, through
the I-271 interchange and two commercial strips. He thinks most of the complaints we have received
have been in the off-peak times.
Mr. Cappello said one of the options is during off-peak times they were going to look into developing
a system that would have look detectors on Wilson Mills. When a vehicle approaches Wilson Mills
from the side streets, instead of activating the signal, there would be a clear period and in a very short
period of time allow the vehicle to make the turn onto WiLson Mills. That is something they are
looking at-different options-they will start at scratch and look at all the different scenarios.
Mrs. Cinco said the fee will be split with Highland Heights.
Mayor Rinker said yes; the Village pays a little more.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None
Senior Snow Removal
Motion Carried
Expenditure Authorized
Council President Fixler said we have all agreed we will wait to get more information from the
bidders.
Community Reinvestment Area Housiniz Council Appointments and Members
Council President Fixler said we will place this on the agenda for the next meeting.
Goldberg/Sunrise Land Development on S.O.M. Center Road
Council President Fixler said his understanding is they are here for a preliminary approval this
evening. He asked Mr. Hovancsek to explain for the record what the variance would be.
