MIlNUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF COUNCIL
Mayfield Village
November 4, 1996
The Council of Mayfield Village met in speciai session on Monday, November 4, 1996, at eight
o'clock (8:00) p.m. in the Council Chambers at Village Hall. Council President Mark Fixler
presided.
ROlI., CALL: Present: NTr. Buckholtz,lVIr. Busa,lVirs. Cinco, IVIr. Ferrante, "
Mr. Fixler and Mr. Marquardt
Absent: Dr. Parker
Also Present: 1VIr. Brett,lVIr. Cappe11o,1Vlr. Diemert,lVIr.lVIetzung,
Chief Mohr, Mr. Samac, Chief Stevens and Miss Heath
Council PresidentFixler said this SpeciallVieeting was called to consider afew items. First, he
wants to consider the new fire pumper.
Purchase of Fire Pumper
Council President Fixler said before Council entertains the motion, he would like to make a
recommendation (after talking with nther Council members) that if Council goes forward with
the purchase-it be under these conditions-and all conditions would have to be followed:
1. The old vehicle must be traded in;
2. This would be the last vehicle for a while.
Council President Fixler said he wants these two caveats added to the legislation so it is clear
how Council is voting for this. He asked for Council's comments.
Mr. Buckholtz asked the amount of time "a while" consists of.
Council I'resident Fuxler asked Chief Mohr for his interpreta.tion.
Chief Mohr said this rescue truck will replace the 20-year-old model. He recommends retaining
the truck they are replacing. He believes the old truck would benefit the community by fighting
brush fires in rural areas such as the Upper 40 and the Metroparks. The truck could also be used
by the Service Department to blow out culverts and water flowers. He believes the truck's value
would bebetween $6,000-7,000 if it were traded in-andby putting it on the market, we could
probably get $10,000.
Regarding the period of time, Chief Mohr said we purchased a large pumper that has a 20-year
life span. Barring a major accident or catastrophe or something he can't foresee, he does not
foresee a major purchase while we are all here. Chief Mohr said one thing that is coming up-is
a squad replacement. We replace our squads every 10 years. In 1998, 641 will be 10 years old.
That will cost around $100,000_00, but we split that 50-30 with Gates Mills.
